Hello 1300 coupe

Post by gary » Fri Nov 06, 2009 7:36 pm

Hello I thought I would introduce myself seeing as I have just bought a 1978 1300 coupe.
There is a sticker on the windscreen indicating it has been in this club before,so someone might know it.
It is in pretty good order for it's age although it has it's own interior swimming pool ha ha,some one previous to me acquiring it had left the windows open on either side, mind you,a pool on the floor means there's no holes in the floor!
I look forward to getting it on the road.

I tried to upload a photo but got the message "the board quota had been reached" the redg of the car is YEA756S

Thanks for that jubileenut I will check photobucket out sometime soon and try and get some photo's posted.
I know what you mean about being tempted Mick,I get the classic car weekly paper most weeks and I have been drooling over many other classics
over the last few months.
The coupe is in very good order,I checked it out as far as i could on ebay and thought it looks ok,and the user has a good rating,so what the hell if it's a bag of crap at £350 I wouldn't have cried over it.
The bloke delivered it on a transporter ,I checked the underneath out before it was offloaded and it looked pretty sound. The inner wings and bulkhead area are solid, the bumper blades and front grille look in very good nick, might have been replaced recently.
The tax disc on the windscreen is 02 and that's the last m.o.t I have,so I assume it's been under cover for the last 8 years or so.
I notice there is no trim in the front or rear screen rubbers? and suspect that the front screen needs to come out as there is a small hole on the
front panel below the windscreen rubber, hence the swimming pool !
all fun and games. it will be a few months before I can make a start on it as I need to get another project up and running,to make room for it,It's at my bro in laws house at the moment, going over to his tomorrow so I will get more of an idea of it.

Hiya Gaz

There were a few of us watching that car. Congrats!!

East kent Trim do the sreen replacements, which you should probably do sooner rather than later. Meantime, remove the seats ( put back in the driver's in case you need to move it) and all the carpets and underlay to dry off naturally indoors.

You can really give them a good clean when they're out - and if any need replacing, the lads here have millions of bits.

I'm not here very long myself, but I have been made very welcome.

Welcome aboard

Thanks for that Mikc, I was down at the car today and I lifted the carpets to get the bungs from the floor and let it drain away.
It was raining and I could see the water was dripping from the windscreen, the bloke that delivered the car had apologised and said"the kids had left the windows open" that was an excuse to cover the reality that the windscreen was leaking. No worries what can you expect for that sort of money. I have covered the car with a tarpaulin so that's an end to the water in the foot wells,I will remove the front screen when the time comes and rebuild the area that has corroded.
The rest of the car is pretty good and well worth keeping alive.I got the engine running(had no battery when I got it) and once warm it ran like a
good un .
All I get from my family is "your not keeping it that colour are you? " the colour doesn't bother me actually,I can visualise it polished up with a set of minilite wheels on it,as for the future it could end up with a peugeot 2.1 td engine,I am very fond of these engines as I have had three citroen xm 2.1 td same engine and now I have a peugeot 406 2.1td and the engine is bullet proof and gives excellent mpg.
mind you I have had diesels for so long I feel I might be missing out on what joys a zetec engine might give me.
That's a long way off.
I like the coupe body shape and it could turn out a very nice car.
as I say look forward to getting it on the road.

I love the colour its just so 70's.. although I can understand the comments about it

Leaking screen shoudnt be difficult to cure, plenty of Genuine screen sealants available used with a sealant gun and a small nozzle it will sort it out.

Hi Mick it will take more than some sealant, there is a hole showing and it's rusted underneath rubber, not a problem for a tinkerer such as myself.I have fabricated enough bit's of cars in the past and quite enjoy the challenge and the satisfaction of doing a good job once the car is up and running again.costing not a lot more than my own efforts and at times resourcefulness ,wow I spelt that without the word checker correcting me!
