Adrian Flux quoted 3 grand per year

From speaking to other young classic drivers it's clear to see Footman James are by far the best.

I'm guessing I dont need to bother mentioning the engine has been replaced? As it is the same as the old one so it shouldn't make any difference. Would the electric fuel pump count as a modification?

It shouldn't matter, but it will do no harm to tell the insurer. At least then they won't be able to claim you didn't declare something. :)

at the end of the day if you want the car bad enough you will pay the insurance, when i had my rs turbo convertible i was paying 2500 grand of a yts wage and took another part time job to pay for it, if you want it you will find a way to have it :D

I must say I've been expecting this topic for a while now, I'm 17 (for 7 more days anyway!) and saw this issue arising the instant I saw you had a 1.8 Marina.

I've had quotes back for 1.3 Dolomites for upwards of 2 grand from the normal insurance comparison sites and £1800 for a Moggie 1000!
I don't plan on phoning anyone up 'till I have passed my test (its amazing how one more year of age makes a differance to a quote even if you've never driven before too! )
£1350 for the 1.8 fully comp with breakdown cover and 3000 miles per year (I will get more than this when I go to get cover as I have been doing some sums
Blimey... is this an over the phone quote because its so cheap its barmy... I'd not trust what online thingys tell you, always best to speak to somebody.

I ruled out Marinas a while ago because of the small 1.3 engine in a big car and the low mpg, I'd rather have a 1.8 than a 1.3 anyway. Definately one to try in the future, a mk2 estate would be nice... 8)

That was on the phone through Footman James, I was always expecting it to be about £1500 which was fine by me as that seems fairly cheap for car insurance of any car for someone our age.

It was when I looked into a price comparison site I got alarmed as they were quoting about £2300.

A quick call to Footman James made me realise it was only going to be about £1500.

Other drivers our age (over on YGC) typically insure themselves for about £700-£800 a year third party on MGBs, so I might go down the third party route.

The moral of this is, never use price comparison sites for classic cars because they scare you!

A 1.8 Marina is cheap to insure, when compared with a typical 1.0 modern car! I can only imagine what it will cost my mate to insure his Fiesta Zetec....

I looked into quotes for them and from most insurers I was getting £2.5k and he can't get a classic quote on it!
