Spotlights / Foglights etc

Post by mk2 golfer » Sun Jun 20, 2010 9:50 am

Hi, does anybody have any ideas as to how i can mount some front Spotlights / Foglights to my MK1 Saloon without drilling into the chrome bumper please, and also rear Foglights, again without drilling into the chrome bumper or anywhere else, thanks.
P.S. if anyone has some close up pics that they could show me i would be very grateful, thanks again.

I got some pictures of mine somewhere but no time to post tonight.

Brackets come up on Ebay but go for high prices so don't expect a bargain.
I have lower fogs and upper spots on the front and rear fogs with no holes in chrome and just a small pilot hole behind the grill for the steady strap.

Rear clamp on to bumper so can be removed to leave no trace.

Front mounts use the bumper irons.

Hi Paul, thanks for the reply, where did you get the clamp from for the rear fog/s or did you make one? i thought about fabbing up some brackets and attaching them to the bumper brackets but tbh didn't think the answer was gonna be as simple as that, if you could post some pics of your set up, front and rear please to give me some ideas, thanks.
If you cant post em on here can you send them to my e-mail address at:- paulnwendy2004(at)@yahoo.co.uk, thank you.
P.S did the (at) thing for the spambots

I copied the front brackets from an original BL one and got them done in stainless and polished up.
the rear fogs which are 1970's NOS have the clamps already. That's why I searched for those as my original car had them 23 years ago and they fit nice.
should get a moment tomorrow to post up some pictures but have a look in uncle Franks section under Jubilee has landed as they are in there some where as well

Thanks for the reply Paul, i suppose the brackets are like hens teeth to get hold of now, might have to rethink the rear fog setup methinks

the rear fogs are small Lucas units. Can't remember the lucas number but they are not the more common large type with metal backs. These are all plastic but have a chrome finish on the rear so are light weight.

I had some brackets made up

Here is a rough drawing of the front upper bracket.

The lower front bracket is easy to make as it is a 90 deg small L bracket which fits to the front bumper iron and the fog fixing also has an Eye bolt which acts as a steady and this is bolted though the flat baffle panel which sits behind the outer front panel.

My stainless ones are thinner gauge but just as strong.
Bending the thick steel in the tight bends will not be easy.

Cheers Paul, I went to my local metal smithy type person in Blackpool and had 4 lengths cut fom 5mm steel, when he brought em out I said 'bloody hell, have you any thinner gauge :o ', I now have 4 lengths made up in 3mm :), still only cost 4 quid tho so not too bad as I'm a cheapskate

Visited the "East Coast Classics" meet at Shotley last Monday. Noticed whilst there one of my Cibie Spots (Mk 3 Saloon) has a cracked glass. Would like to replace but.........What is the Cibie designation for said spots?

Mine looks to say "Lode 55" on the glass, but google images bring up Lode55s that look different, intended for bracket fixing under the bumper!
Can't find anything on Evilbay at present but will keep looking!
At the same time tyhe lock barrel for the glovebox pinged out. Spent 2 hours on Sunday re-assembling. Was just the roll pin fell out but.... what a faff getting back together ::):

I still have a few sets of mk1 spot brackets in mild steel left. £30 pair plus P&P £4 in the UK.
