sump gasket set

8)it must be at least 10 years since i last changed a sump gasket. i seem to remember that the front and back cork seals are meant to sit proud and then the gasket goes on top of them but the cork seals i have are sitting almost half an inch proud is that right ??..........larry

On the set i`ve got in stock the cork gaskets are about 3" Long and 1/4" square in profile, the ones you`ve got may be two stuck together, or not cut by accident in the process?

8) hi jim..it doesnt look right and i have pressed them well into the sump.it is the right gasket set as i have 3 sets and they all sit the same. i dont really want to trim them as i know that they are meant to sit proud and be compressed when the sump is fitted but dare i trim them back a bit in case it leaks.

8) once pressed into the sump by how much should they protrude.

Hi Larry, i just dug out one of the cork gaskets in one of my old sets and my guess measurements were a bit out, they are actually 5 1/2" long and 5/16 high by 1/4 wide, but to be honest i`m not sure whether you should cut down yours as they may be a softer type of cork

8) one of my sump sets has rubbers front and rear and they sit high as well.might just trim them back a bit and give it a go but the old girl needs a rear crankshaft seal as well....anyone help on that one

FAI still stock the front and rear oil seals a local motor factor should deal with them,
from memory,
OS772 1.8 rear seal
OS584 1.3 rear seal
OS473 1.3/1.8 front seal
the o series and t series are the same as the 1.8

Sorry Larry, i have had a look in my gasket drawer and the spare i thought i had is in fact a Maxi one, so i`m afraid all i can do is give you the part no` and wish you luck in finding one....part no`13H 2457 (1800)

looks like Madmart has solved the problem for you anyway

I can't remember the last sump gasket I changed it was a long time ago,but if the seals are cork and appear to long they should compress to form an oil tight seal once you get the sump bolts started.The important thing here is long is good

to short not good

so just give it a go, you can't do any damage, but personally I wouldn't trim the seals first.
