What an intersting discussion... I actually like Dolomites, my mate has a tax exempt 1850 that i've found interesting to drive every now and again. Not a bad word to say about them really. Oh and wasn't the Marina launched in 1971 so thats how many years before the Dolomite :wink: nickin our axles and boxes!! LOL.

Anyway! Interesting comments the Dolly boys are saying. Both the Marina and Allegro were bread and butter cars and cheap! The Marina was a profit maker end of story!

As for V8's there were a few. Most famous was the pickup truck and the Rally coupes! I'll dig out some piccies.

I feel a Marina/Dolomite hybrid comming along.. Any spare sprint running gear Al?! :D

Very interesting Al, you seem to be holding your own there mate! :wink: , i`ve got a few figures you might be able to shut them up with if you want them...
Sales figures..Dolomite V Marina,
Dolomite sales 1972....13,004 units.
Marina sales 1972....104,968 units.
Dolly................1973....17,627 units.
Marina..............1973....115,041 units.
Dolly.................1974....14,572 units
Marina...............1974....81,444 units
And so it goes on, tailing off on both into the late 70`s, i think the figures speak for themselves, the Dolomite was not even in the same league as the Marina when it came to Sales of cars and making a profit for the company!!..tell em to stick that in their pipes Al 8) :lol:

Just looked in the book Al and as far as i can see they both came out in 1971...the Marina sold 41,164 as opposed to the Dolly, which sold 51 in 1971!!!, so i would assume the Marina came out first?...unless you know different mate :wink:

I actually went along to the Dolomite National the other week and apart from them having less cars than us at a national.... The TC actually got a lot of good comments. Met some very nice fellas from thier club forum. Don't remember the usernames tho!

I have to say all of the Dolly club members are a brilliant bunch of guy's and girls.

Jonner's is not a club member. I will go as far as to say this, he has caused one of the leading ambassador's of the club to leave, with his comments and attitude.

Some of you may have seen the Cosworth powered Dolly ALGK1 about...

Apparently not a Dolomite as it has a modern engine.

This in it's self could lead to another debate!

On the whole a balanced debate, which I hope you all found interesting! :)

The Marina/Sprint has already been done, whether it still exists is another thing, though! It turned up at the 1992 MMOC National day at Billing and was a coupe with an Ital front. It came past me on the A45 later in the day, going like sh*t off a stick. That 16V looked almost a factory fit!
The classic car movement needs Jeremy Clarkson like Jenson Button needs a towhitch and a Sprite Musketeer....
