Shrinking assets..
Apropos of nothing.
I am about to sell some Marinas.
The mere idea makes me very sad.
Since the earthquakes here, we have been without home or work premises - and are currently sharing a house with my ex-wife.
The mind boggles.
Such is the instinct for survival that we entertain ideas that would previously have seemed impossible. The reality is not too far removed either...
Because we no longer have any storage space, I am forced to part with a few of the fleet. Currently, I am looking at wrecking one, and selling 3.
I can't begin to describe what a wrench that is. I have reduced the shortest straws to even shorter straws, and even then I am finding it hard to contemplate the end of the future plans I had for these vehicles.
Survival it is.
Hard to believe I could feel threatened at the thought of only having 6 Marinas.
I will be selling my token Japanese car too - that was the first consideration - but serious times demand serious action.
I'll be placing these cars on the NZ Trademe auction site - not sure what sort of prices to ask, but I guess I'll just look at what is already there and price mine accordingly.
2 Mk3 saloons and a Mk3 van seem to be the final decision. I'll post links here as it unfolds.
Hope you are all enjoying your Marinas wherever you happen to be. Make it count.!
Regards,
Kilroy

Needs must when the Devil drives.
Its a minor miracle that none of the cars were damaged in the big quakes. Hopefuly someone will maintain them in good order, and when circumstances improve are available to buy back.

Re: Shrinking assets..
My partner just told me to ask " Is one an auto and how much do you want?" . At the moment we have an HSV Clubsport with a cracked piston, a Nissan largo with a cylinder full of water and a Mk 3 Marina wagon. Guess which one is the daily driver. I have been instructed to fix the largo and sell it as soon as posible. To be replaced with something "british and reliable". Her words not mine. She wants a P5 rover or a Triumph 2500 but another marina would be perfect.

Re: Shrinking assets..
Hiya mate.
One is indeed an auto.
Its a sandglow saloon that had a few elderly owners before me. I bought it off the widow who did not drive. It still has the cushions in the rear window...

Has a couple of blemishes which can be seen on this side view.
Since purchasing it I have lowered it 1" with blocks at rear. Rebuilt front suspension with reconditioned shocks, superflex bushes in eyebolts and radius rods, and new steering rack bush. Replaced rear wheel cylinders, probably brake linings and pads (can't remember..), and fixed numerous other small items.
It has a recent wof but the rego is on hold. Another month and a half until I can re-rego it without paying penalties.
It needs the wipers stripped and greased, and a rear wheel bearing replaced. Both of these will be done before I sell it.
Good spare tyre, plus jack and original wheel brace in proper toolkit bag.
I recently replaced the head gasket. The studs were very loose, and I suspect it was once replaced and never had the head re-tightened.
Currently wearing 6" hotwires as pictured, but I will fit a set of standard wheels with the proper trims and chrome surrounds prior to sale.
I think I will be able to get $1500 for it on Trademe, and that's being realistic as opposed to some of the overpriced items currently featured...

Feel free to mail me..

Cheers.

Re: Shrinking assets..
That price sounds very reasonable, and from a trustworthy seller.

The quakes have forced a lot of people to make lifestyle changes that they would never have made before. Fancy Kilroy buying a Volvo :P .
I'll be down in Chch late July. Perhaps we could get together and "talk the talk".
I heard from a friend that John Gobbe is still buying up 1300 Marinas.

Does he live in Perth St, Richmond? Tempted to give him a call and see if he's still got any of those coupes you posted a pic of.Kilroy wrote:Had a phone call from him last week.

And if he can be persuaded to part with one... 8)

Thanks for the cell number. There are only two J Gobbes in the whole of NZ, and they are both in the eastern suburbs of Chch. I rang the one in Richmond, so now I know I want the one in Queenspark.Kilroy wrote:Not sure where he lives - but have his cell number.

Re: Shrinking assets..
Please do keep us updated with this, as I could be very interested in getting rid of my Skyline in favour for another Marina

I'll buy every 3 legged donkey on the lot, and try and save em all.

Not sure yet.
Am going to get it a wof and reg first, so I'm waiting to see what that will cost me.
Currently I only know of three problems, rear wheel cylinders, leaky exhaust, and steering rack bush.
All within my range of expertise..

Re: Shrinking assets..
Good grief I wish my list of wof faults were so short

Let me know how much you decide to put it up for, looks a really good one
