The chip in the gearbox will be on the reverse idle gear, it only turns in first and reverse. It won't harm the gearbox particularly as long as you can drain the metal chips out of the oil. If you've got a magnetic drain plug then it should be a fairly quick job.

1.3 Cars with reasonably long MOTs are going for anything between £750 and £1200 depending on model and condition.

You won't get the chip out if the magnet is fitted in the base of the gearbox as it should be!!
Marina gearboxes are meant to have a magnet fitted to the base inside the casing, so removing the drain plug will only get out what has settled in the drain hole. (Unless you also have a magnetic drain plug, but I have not seen one yet!)

My gold seal box I removed and stripped had no magnet so all the chips and fillings carried on going round in the oil

My 1.8 gold seal box had a magnetic drain plug. You can buy them from Rimmer Bros for Spitfire/Dolly - same basic box.

You lucky boy :D
I don't think they were standard though but worth fitting in case the original magnet is not there!

I think TG have spent their Marina thing as it was not great the first time so will be no good doing it again.
Be more weary of the Banger lads as that could be perfect for them if the price is low!

Truth be told I am looking for £1800 for it as my starting price is £2000 but will take less. I'm not sure what the price for a mk2 In good condition :)
