'Intermittent' wipers????

Post by Kiwi Ute » Sat Apr 27, 2013 6:43 am

OK, not sure if this is in the right part of the forum but:

At times lately I have turned on the wipers in my Marina ute and there's been no action from them - or they started working several seconds after I turned them on.

When it appears they weren't going to work I have turned them off and tried again - and on this 2nd attempt they generally started right up (but not always!)

Any ideas what is happening? - and why? :?:

I'll have a look at the switch on the dash as my stalk only functions as horn/indicator/hi-lo beam switch, thanks

I agree it sounds like dirty contacts, try the switch first. If that doesn't cure it then look at the breaker/park contacts in the wiper motor box.

One of my cars occasionally exhibits a "no wipers" condition on a cold morning.

I discovered that it was actually the ignition - the key was not returning properly from the "start" position, so a number of electrical items would not work.
Some WD40 in the barrel of the ignition switch cured it.

Doesn't cure ugly chics though...
