Was there ever a connection with the marina and the Hyundai pony? Seem to remember reading something about it

Roy Haynes took the designs to Hyundai in 1985, they used the Coupe and Pickup bodies, although they made a 4 door body with the Coupe fastback as well as the two doors. Something that BL had tried but it never got to production.

Re: Hyundai connection???
When they wanted to produce their own cars Hyundai recruited George Turnbull who was managing director of BL's Austin Morris division. He apparently took two Marinas with him to use as a basis for the first Hyundai, which became the Pony. Turnbull eventually became Vice President of Hyundai. I don't know whether Roy Haynes was involved, but other British designers and engineers certainly were.

Yes, the Pony was the 'Korean Marina' and they are frighteningly similar under the bonnet.
The classic car movement needs Jeremy Clarkson like Jenson Button needs a towhitch and a Sprite Musketeer....

The Later Stellar model used a Cortina floorpan and suspension I believe.
