Are you sure the wing is a replacement on TDT? I will have to find the details when it was for sale in Classic Car Weekly a few years ago, it was a low mileage minter and wasn't cheap! Terrible that somebody has allowed it to deteriorate like that but looks like the future is bright for it now

Defiantly. You can see where it's been spot welded on. And there's quite a gap where it joins to the top by the scuttle. Scuttle has quite a big hole in it. Sills have started to go, and spare wheel well is full of filler :(

Hey, at least filler can't rust ;) hahaha, that's a nice car you've got there mate! Good find!

Today I bought some new tyres 185/70 R 13's on my weller wheels. Cooper tyres on the front and mid-range Marshalls on the back as firm didn't have a full set of 4 wasn't too bothered so bought a pair of both. They aligned the car up for me and filled up the tyres with nitrogen gas. £300 quid later Car handles and drives a LOT LOT better,
Driving at 50mph and the 1.3 is much quieter and strain free. Compared to how it was on the old part worns I'd get a shakes on the drivers side back wheel around 50, now though the car flies! it doesn't seem to feel so dragged back now, what a difference! :-D

Went home and went to tighten up wheel nuts and sheared the thread on the passengers side front hub! Luckily in garden there is a 1.8 back axle my dad has kept for many years, tapped the stud out of that, cleaned up stud with wire brush. Removed front hub and tapped new stud in using an anvil. The anvil had a square hole to put the stud i wanted to tap down on. Glad the thread on the back axle is the same length as the ones on the front hub too :) I put a tail down over the whole anvil so threads didn't get stripped from the impact of club hammer and punch, then greased wheel bearing up and put it all back on again with a new split pin, should have put a nyloc nut on really as i am getting really fed up of split pins, they never do want to come out in one peace nor do they not come out without a bloody good fight in a tight space and I always seem to scrape my knuckles on something, couldn't find a UNF nyloc anywhere though and it was getting dark. Maybe one day I will get around to making the whole car nyloc for the locking devices Tightened the wheel nuts up again but was obviously a lot more careful this time around... ;)

It's nice to know that 40 years after leaving the factory, on a sunny afternoon all across Britain. People are still spending time looking after their Marinas.

There was a debate some time ago about wheel nut torque, it's worth searching for the thread. The key for me is that a high tensile 3/8"UNF bolt is rated at about 50 ft/lbs torque, if you over tightened it that's why the threads went in the first place.

Clean it, it would be rude not to.

Spent Wednesday morning in lovely sun, welding up a couple of ruddy great holes in the o/s rear panel on the Ital.... me and my screwdriver! Got some other 'screwdriver' bits to do but the weather has fallen to bits again...

Didn't do anything to Ozzy today, but spoke to a Ferrari and Aston owner at the V8 Supercars today, who had fond memories of his Marina workshop hack. Said they'd repowered with a Maxi engine, and fitted the front suspension and brakes from the Aussie 6, which made it go and handle "fantastic". 8-)

Even the towie who moved it last week said they were under-rated and gave it the thumbs up. Told me that he remembered seeing them being assembled in the NZMC factory at Newmarket in Auckland. :-D
