gearbox differences?
hopefully someone will have an idea but...
is a 1300 10cwt van gearbox different to one from a 1.3 saloon? just the syncro is getting a little troublesome on my 1.3 deluxe, as well as leaking a fair bit.
i have the chance of a 10cwt gearbox, but A, if it is different, its probably going to be for the worse, and B) because the bloke says it is different he reckons its worth a fair bit.
if it is different than maybe his price is justified, but its been standing a while.
thanks in advance for your help

Re: gearbox differences?
The only difference that I know of is the speedo drive is different, you can swap them over easily.
The big difference is the rear axle, but you don't want that do you?

Re: gearbox differences?
afaik from all the workshop manuals and group discussions, the only difference in the engine, clutch, gearbox between the 1300 variants is (as Chris said) the speedo drive gear (to suit the different diff ratios). Perhaps more relevant is whether there were running changes to the gearbox internals during the dozen or so years that the Marina and Ital were in production, that may make later gearboxes "better" than earlier ones?

gearbox differences?
The number of teeth on the reverse idle gear varies, but they all work.

Re: gearbox differences?
You can have thicker gear teeth on the laygear which meshes with the reverse idler and I think the outer of one of the syncro hubs.
Makes getting it in to reverse a lottery if you have the larger thicker gear teeth.
Personally I would ensure it has the finer pitch teeth as then I think selecting reverse may be easier and provided you are not still going in a forward direction while selecting reverse (No syncro mesh on reverse) then it should last as long
BL also changed the bearing in the end of the 1st motion shaft to a larger diameter so I presume a stronger set up.
Speedo drive dead easy to swap.

Re: gearbox differences?
So to summarise, some detail changes, but to answer your original query, all 1.3 gearboxes will fit all 1.3 cars or commercials.
