After 12 months rest, and being left abandoned on my Dads drive. I have now repaired the gearbox problem on my HL. After that, put on a new waterpump, and put some fresh grease in her nipples. For passing her MOT with no advisories, I treated her to a new tax disc. Better still, just as I was about to rip out the old electric ariel, it started working again!! I love it when things repair themselves

You best make the most of it now!

yep they set the ital of a treat,just had to fit gt6 studs in the hubs instead of the marina/ital ones so i could use dolomite nuts that screw right down to the face of the hub.
though got a little bit of shake about 60 mph but have got a set of locking wheel nuts on which might be causing this,i'll try changing this for another matching wheel nut see if this balances it up.

Sheared a clutch cover bolt on the V8.. Not happy. Just when I thought I was making progress too. Ho hum, another set back on the manual conversion and 6 link setup.

Weak bolt or a gorilla on the socket wrench?

Neither, the flywheel thread was ok until about 3/4 in and then was clogged. It had another snapped off bolt in it!

Just got back from the 'Border rally' a slow speed classic rally, as usual we were the only Marina. We had a good time and the Marina worked faultlessly. We had on and off rain and I was looking forward to using my new Maplins intermittent wipe unit, it worked fine with just the ignition on but not happy with the engine running, so I will get a capacitor across the supply from Maplins tomorrow to hopefully stop the relays chattering.

Topped up the oil in the rear axle and drained and re-filled the gearbox. I couldn't find EP90 anywhere, but after doing some reading decided Castrols Manual gear oil EP80W90 GL4 was suitable. Took it for a spin down the local bypass to get things circulating. Nothings gone bang yet.

Unipart Sell EP 90 off the shelf as it suits land rovers too. Or I can get it as I am now a Castrol stockiest and prices are competitive.

Stop light switch failed on me.

Just spent two hours trying to take old one off and put a new one on. I don't think I have ever been this pissed off before . The sill digging into my back and thighs trying to get a good view and my arm and hand over to take the bolts out, replace and put the new one one along with the two bolts. They couldn't have put the switch and bracket in a worse place, I've had more fun replacing a steering rack.

Straight after a drive to make sure OK for work in morning, come back and there is a moderate amount of oil dripping down from flywheel splashing down onto my drive.

Not sure if oil pressure switch is to blame too as the terminal and starter looks oily, it drips by the look of it where the backplate and flywheel meet the gearbox bellhousing so maybe something around there too.

My car is so full of aggrovation at the moment, I have spent so much money on this car, so much time and its a reconditioned engine which has done 13,000 it hasn't had a hard life at all, all I want to do is look after it, and aggro is all it wants to give me at the moment.

This video pretty much sums my mood up to a T. I could never actually do it though, I sometimes hate how much I love this car.

Im waiting for oil to sink now, Im taking the breather cap off, and gong to drive it to see if it doesn't leak so I can get to work and back and so people don't take the piss out of me for the car 'being off the road' again.


I am hoping its the two U-SHAPED crankshaft seals, are these a common marina fault?

Got it sat on the ground with its 6 link pretty much where I want it. It's nose up as the engines not in yet cos I lost the bell housing to engine bolts and no one sells UNC bolts over here!!!

Gave the ute an oil change and was surprised how little oil came out of the filter when I unscrewed it.
But I like to pre-fill a new filter before screwing it onto the motor and that was tricky to do without making mess!(Whose idea was it to have the filter facing downwards??? )

I used Havoline 20-40 having figured out it was the most suitable and wasn't too many $$.
