Naa Glen, gotta leave something for next weekend... but hopefully won't be too long.

Actually, we're off to look at kitchens and bathrooms this morning  but this afternoon's plan includes putting that engine crane to good use.

There's not as much room as it looks- it's a standard suburban garage, not too bad on width (about 3' wider than a car as I recall) but it's only about 18" longer than a Marina. It's just unusually tidy 'cos I've turfed all the junk into the barn where my friend keeps his classic lorries...

Ben did all the hard work and Frank supplied the engine (although there's not an awful lot of it left- as it didn't need a rebore there's a lot of Maestro bits in there :) -but without it being a good base we wouldn't have been so lucky!), I've just had the easy bits. Hoping it should look for all the world like a standard Ital A+ less the ribs in the block once it's in. Need a few odd bits to complete the look- Ital solid heater pipe (I have a Marina one thanks to Ben which will work, but the Ital one is a slightly different shape to clear the larger manifold) & the solid section of servo hose for two.

Decided to fit a club (Chris) clutch slave since they are nice and easy to fit with the engine like this & I didn't want to faff around with it again. On that note, I've an exchange for you now Chris, will pop it in the post in the week.

This is a post to 'Marinadriver',

The head to stromberg carbs, I'm assuming you are going with the steel manifolds, using 6mm strip and thin sheet steel and cardboard for patterns I've made up to manifolds for my engine, one was to fit twin HS6's to an 8 port head and the other was to fit 4 throttlebodies to the 8 port head, so a bit of a welding fest but you get the shape that you want.

For rear suspension have you considered fitting an MX5 rear subframe and all the bits, it is the right axle width and is almost a bolt in fit. I don't know what is available in the US. Also I guy on hear fitted a Lada back axle and rallied it. I have looked at the MX5 route but they are still expensive in our scrapyards at present (a nice project for suspension).

What did I do today?

Fixed the broken inner cable on the choke.

And replaced the bed-spring sized return spring for the choke with something more sensible!

I went to the Silverstone Classic yesterday, no Marinas though. Random shots taken on my iPhone.

Nice. Was the BMW screen trim similar to the Marina?
