This the link to the Goodyear reference page.

Well thats definitely no 3 for fuel leaks.
Thats an excellent point about only fitting pipe rated as SAE 30R7 Chris , I thought the unleaded pipe was fit for purpose
& have fitted braided pipe to the electric fuel pump on the ital ( luckily haven't got any on front yet ) so thats going to come off again.
A good point paul, braided pipe looks very nice, but you cant see whats going on underneath it.
There's going to be a lot more reports of fuel loss at this rate.

With the ethernol content likely to be increased in future years, the sooner we all change to this ethanol resistant hose the better.
Thanks for the " heads up " Chris.....

This age of car you should be using super unleaded and most have no ethanol content at all.

Right now I agree David, but for those looking to use their cars daily the extra cost of Super unleaded can be telling. Also the future plans for fuels is that they will all end up with some ethanol. E10 will be standard (10% ethanol) and some will be E15 (10% ethanol).

If you are changing you fuel hose anyway SAE 30R7 hose has to be the way to go.

I have just bought some of this http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/141358335021 for my Pickup.

This stuff is black cotton braided rather than stainless steel braided it's 8mm ID and is only £3.20 per metre.

DIN73379 is the same as SAE 30R7.

I am using the good stuff as the car runs better on it but the hose is shot, never seen one so bad in such a short time.
I will be swapping all my hoses over as soon as I can now.
The fuel I have lost would have paid for the hose! :rolls:

Thanks Chris, I have used the link to order some & new clips. As Paul says it's only the cost of a lost gallon!

I can understand the need for Super Unleaded in TCs etc as I think the original handbooks specified 100 RON. I have always ran my single carb cars on supermarket 95 RON and have never had any problems. No different to people running them on 3 star back in the day!

The justification at the moment is that some Super Unleaded has no ethanol in it. The FBHVC has been looking into this claim and confirmed that the only Super fuel for sure that had no ethanol was Murco for the South of England, due to where it was shipped from. Obviously if a company says ethanol free then they can be believed, but they are not obliged to state any ethanol content until it is currently 5% and soon 10%.

This is a good general read http://www.fbhvc.co.uk/legislation-and- ... formation/

And set up correctly super should give better performance and mpg.
It's proven on the dyno-may not notice a big difference on the road ( but who maximises settings to take advantage? ) but the potential is there!

Fetched "Posh Bird " Friday, she's coming for a sleep over for a few day's till she hits the catwalk at Gaydon on the 22nd Aug.
While she's here I'll have a play with her headlamps (naughty don't tell Richard ), & see if we can fix em.
Richard was changing a bulb in n/side spot lamp (it wasn't as bright as the other ) when there was a puff of smoke from the dashboard area & they went out,
With a chat over the phone we got them all back except h/light flash, but are still intermittent.
Probably burnt those points again.
Its even worse on the mk 3, because those spots for the h/light flash add about another 8amps through the dipp switch, so thats about 16 amps + on main beam its too much so lets have a look.
The spot light bulbs are same wattage so why is n/s dull, check connections remove earth & harness from clips,&found the insulation &plastic covering on blue n white main beam wire worn away & touching the bodywork. probably not making good connection just bleeding some of the voltage off dimming the bulb,
Must of disturbed it whilst changing the bulb, made better connection but with no fuse in h/light cicsuit its gone to the next weekest point , that dip switch.
I'm disconnecting these &wiring them separately through a rellay, just using the b/white as the trigger.
The burnt bit about 6" long did go to the n/s spot light, sothe rest of the wires n/s are ok.
Right done that, lights nice .& bright now, still intermittent &no head light flash.
have a look tomorrow.

Saturday
steering wheel off ( mind my teeth) indicator switch off leave plugged in, test.
power reaching h/lt blue connection , but not getting through, its melted the plastic a bit &not reaching ajacent connector.
cleaned up &put a bit of solder on , filed flat (disconnected battery of course) tested ,ok.
used small key files to dress points & reset, much more positive now. refit everything, test ok.

posh bird has been admiring Gabbi's bonnet light & wantsd 1 like it so we found her1 & a lights on warning buzzer, we also refitted her old bonnet light in the boot, so she's very pleased .

I'll e mail the photos to Ben, pehaps he''ll put them up for me. Posh bird & gabbi hav gone to bed now.

Gil.

Chris, is SAE 30R9 beter and OK to use?
Seems this is higher pressure for fuel injection systems rather than normal old car type.
Found Advance Fuel Solutions in Essex but although they list R7 pipe it defaults to R9 on the menu! :eh:
I guess it would be harder to bend so may not be as nice.

I can't remember the ID I need but I know the carbs are different to the fuel pump and the pump has 2 different pipe sizes just to be a pain.

Hi Paul as you say R9 is for fuel injected engines running ethanol fuel, so it will be OK to use fuel wise, but it will withstand a lot higher pressure will will be stiffer/less flexible.

From memory the carbs and fuel pump outlet is 1/4" and the rest of the system is 5/16" (8.0mm).

Drove down to Clacton to see Chris Bass today. Picked up a prop shaft and some suspension stuff from a very sad van destined for the scrap yard.

He still has the 10cwt rear axle and rear springs if anyone is interested, he should be open to a sensible offer on it. PM me and I give you his phone number.
