Free'd Ducky's clutch off today, took much quicker than usual, I guess living in a car port has helped keep some of the damp out this year. I then moved CVF up the driveway only for one of the front wheel cylinders to fail. At some point it has been fitted with an odd set of cylinders- one cylinder on each side is from a later car so I am taking the opportunity to change all of them. Typically some of the old replacement copper pipes sheared off and I am out of unions so it looks like for now I am down to zero roadworthy Marinas

When Using Copper brake pipe Brass unions Should be used to stop that happening, Rather than the Cadmium ones everyone uses Can some times get around it by cracking the nut off then unscrewing cylinder off the pipe rather than trying to undo the nut

I always use a smear of copper grease in the threads and inside the union.

Thanks David, I certainly did not know that. Unfortunately the front cylinders are bolted in and I had to get the pipes out of the way to undo the seized bolts, nothing's ever simple is it?

If you use Cunifer pipe rather than copper you will not have that problem. Cunifer is harder and very slightly more expensive. If you use copper or cunifer is has to be supported more often as it is not as self supporting as steel.

I have been using cunifer pipe and steel fittings for over 20 years and the only problem I had was an unsupported pipe cracked, it just passed its MOT and I remade the end on the pipe added another support.

You must have more muscle than me, I have found cunifer a struggle to flare, I have now got a much posher flaring tool so might be able to do it. Probably worth the effort as I know cunifer is a bit 'better' than copper (less likely to fail in use, but saying that a well supported copper pipe shouldn't fail either).

Cunifer pipes make muck better and neater job I find just not as easy to bend don't have trouble flaring them as have commercial tool that we use in the garage in a vice

I usually use a glass jar to bend the pipe around (smooth surface) and plenty in the recycling box.

Well I've been quite poor in working on the marina. I've rebuilt the brake master cylinder. Painted the shot blasted brake backing plates and drums and bought all the parts to rebuild the rear brakes.
Other than that done nowt, problem is I have too many cars so hard to juggle the time. Hopefully progress will be made now we have lighter nights.

I surprised the Pickup today, by greasing her nipples and giving a wash and polish, in preparation for Prude of Longbridge next Saturday. The club has a stand in area "T", so come along or if you are not in your Marina/Ital come and wander over and say hello.

No work done on either car (both have moved today but only so I could move the engine crane from the garage (mk2 blocking it in) to the barn (Mud in the way of where it needed to go) ) for ages, as fitting out a campervan and a garden makeover have been getting in the way, as well as sorting out the model railway for an exhibition. Neither the van nor the garden are mine!

I have however recieved a box of goodies including a type 9 conversion kit from Chris today (via my next door neighbour, who has been trying to track me down for a few days!), so I'll be getting the 'box sorted soon. Cart before the horse a little but the cunning plan is that when the rebuilt shell comes back from Uncle Frank I'll have a nice kit of shiny mechanical bits ready to fit up ;) Gearbox seems as logical a place to start as any!
