After two weeks I finally got to that magic mileage number I was talking about (even though the clock started to go too far). Good job I was on quiet roads so I could easily pull over and take a picture of it..ignoring the fact that I did have to kill .3 of a mile to get it to it

. I guess I must be pretty sad to find this sort of thing cool

. Wonder if I can get to 77777.7 before the MOT runs out

..we'll have to see.

Yesterday the wiper system was finished . New wheelboxes fitted . System realigned after greasing . Wiper motor stripped and cleaned . Washers (electric) checked out and working once nozzles cleaned . Gearbox leaking from rear seal , seal replaced and 3 litres of fresh EP90 to top up . Diesel so not the standard marina box . This one has a dipstick !! Drivers door top hinge worn so removed and repinned and door rehung . Whilst sorting various electrical issues the headlight bowls have been butchered by a bodger at some time so possibly repair them or replace with new .

Wasn't quite today, but I've been so busy I haven't had chance to put anything on.
Last Sunday I went to my first show

. Was a nice day and the rain held off all day apart from when it spat a few times. I was the only Marina there and I got a lot of interest in people looking at the car and a fair few talking to me about it; some people were remembering their days with their Marina too. Also did the ring parade twice with I thought was pretty cool. All the cars there were very nice. I was parked between a MK1 escort and a Lotus Elite. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the cars around me as most of them left an hour before the show ended. Of course you get that one guy come up to kick it down but I just ignored it ("how are your brakes because mine always used to pull to the left?") I told him my brakes are fine and really wanted to say maybe you should have had them serviced, but didn't.
Next time I just need to remember a seat..remembered it until I got in the car then forgot

.
Here are a select few pictures of the day that have a Marina in

:

- Spot the Marina joining the ring parade

- Parked up waiting for the other cars

- Was one of the last cars there

- Did a boot display with some of the parts I had replaced and other bits

Today, fitted a hi level rear brake lamp. Passenger mirror and a couple of minor touch ins of paint after de greasing the engine bay . All in readiness for the show on Sunday. Also got the interior light going having replaced the door pillar switches. These seem to differ on mine compared to later models. I bought some from the bay which weren't cheap, but necessary .

Decided it was time I pulled my finger out and did some work on the Marina.
Took the calipers off as they were shot some weeks ago. Could I chuff remove the pistons so gave up and went down to my local distributor of car parts. Dropped them off yesterday at 3pm and collected today at 2pm. All looking very good with new pistons/ seals etc.
Old school shop and they enjoyed working on a bit of marina, had parts in stock etc.
well impressed.
Going to have 2 full days this weekend subject to weather. Plan is to finish brakes and start on the welding.

Had a really good day on the marina. Only one bit of welding left. All drivers side finished and under sealed. Needed to move car to work on that bit but the clutch is still stuck. Tried the running and warming up method but I suspect i ran out of petrol 15 minutes into procedure so gave up on that.
Managed to drill and tap the snapped caliper bolt.
so getting very close. Mot soon me hopes.......

Hi,put a new starter motor on the Mumford. At least now I don't need to carry about a 24" bar and club hammer to encourage it to turn over. You just never knew when it was going to start or not. Petrol station forecourts, supermarket car parks,Bromley Pagent of motoring, you name it I'm there club hammer in hand.

Carried out some much needed work over the last couple of days
Front and rear shocks replaced
Freed off near side caliper
Replaced internal rack bush
After replacing the rack bush and reinstalling rack I couldn't wait to drive it to see if it had cured the knocking noise!!!!! I didn't get very far cos it was worse banging and clattering
On further inspection the new bush had popped out bit strange I have pushed it back and re tightened the grub screw and it seems to be ok now
If it comes out again I think I'll glue the bush in place
All knocking gone at last

If it's the new red type of bush it is best to put in an additional grub screw on the other side to stop it popping out. Mine has been fine with two screws. Just make sure it is the right screw length or it will fowl the internal part of the rack.

Strange, I have done two now with no problems. A good 'fix' (bit of a bodge) for early cars is to swell the bush up which gets rid of the play. Sadly later cars have a harder bush, not sure when it changed over but my 73 coupe had the harder one in it.
In other news, I picked mine up today (yes another one...). 70s custom tastic.
