Did the honors Chris,
The strengtheners are aluminium also according to the "stick test" (but seem of a harder aluminium????) the condition is ok i really thought it was a lot better until i started to have a clean at it 30 years stored in glorified coal bunker has taken a toll.

In fact the old gent who had it almost weighed it in for scrap, last summer but as he no longer drives was unable to to take the bonnet to his local scrap yard, when he finally sorted out the transportation issue,(the dent in the centre i think is where he started to bend the bonnet so it would fit into the boot of a Nissan Micra) the bottom had fell out of the scrap market,so the bonnet got a lucky reprieve.

Russ, just a thing about bonnets Trevor the rep (who comes into the firm) who has a MGB told me that on his car both the bonnet and boot lid should both have been aluminium (the car is a 64 MGB Roadster) but because it has been rebuilt the old bonnet and boot have been replaced with later steel units, and all that happened when MG altered the model they simply added steel units to the later cars, the body panel press worked with sheet steel and not sheet aluminium, nothing needed to be changed.
