Good to hear from someone that's used the smith and deakin ones.
Unfortunately my front wings and the rest f the car are going to a new owner tomorrow so I may never get a chance to fit some...
I'll pass the details (and this forum) to the new owner.

They are £54.95 each but postage is another £45....

spoke to the manager and he seems a nice guy and very helpfull - i am going to send him some pics of my wings and he is going to quote us on remaking them - and if i can usung my originals copy them in metal -
does any one have a photo of the front wing inside so he can see the resess - bad spelling i know and a pic of the inner rear of the wing
fingers crossed there going to be reasonable price

Just on this subject, I noticed in the PC that I was reading about the Marina in, that the Minor boys have bought the front wing tooling off the administrators of Hadrian panels after they closed in December.
I don't think Hadrian had any Marina wing tooling in any case based on some of the discussion earlier in this thread but they did do headlamp panels, sills and some limited arch panels I believe. According to some other digging, the assets of Hadrian have been bought by Imperial and they are advertising as Incorporating Hadrian on their
website. No Marina bits on there at all though.... :?

My estate had new wings bolted on and inner splashguards made and fitted........in 1999. 13 years on and still unmarked. Splashguards are the answer. Dougies estate had new wings welded on 4 years ago and they are rotted through.

Which is odd really given that Imperial say:
" Hadrian, over many years, has developed an enviable reputation for its classic car parts range...and Imperial is commited to developing this area further"
They also state that the Hadrian site at Hexam will remain as it is and continue trading.
Hadrian had (before the take over by Imperial) also re-introduced Ford Escort MK1 front wings (standard and Mexico versions) despite having no access to original tooling, so if the demand is there it is possible that they presumably could do Marina ones. I suppose it all depends on economies of scale and how much we are all prepared to pay.
Wonder why the Marina/Ital panels don't appear? Only Minor parts come up under the Morris heading, yet loads of models appear under the Austin one. Maybe we need to give them a reminder that there is still a demand!

Might be of interest, hope you get a sensible reply.
I was just also trying to find out what happened to Veng and pop-on. Turns out that Veng, Pop-on and Saltofix were in a price fixing cartel against Imperial from 1994 and were found guilty by the OFT. It seems that Veng and Pop-on went under and were absorbed by Saltofix which became SVG which in turn was bought by Partco (Still with me here...) and Partco was in turn bought by Unipart Automotive. Gawd knows where the pop-on and Veng tooling ended up through all of this but it's sorta ironic that it should end up owned by what used to be part of BL..
EDIT: Noticed that the 'new' Mk1 Mexico wings from Imperial are £276 each and 'normal' models are just £158 :shock:

Hmm, I expected those kind of prices really - still a decent Escort Mexico is going to be worth upwards of £10K, and Mk1 RS's much, much, more so I suppose in those cases the prices are worth paying.
The main cost in any product is the initial tooling cost - that cost has to factored in to the eventual market price, if they already had the original tooling then they would be much cheaper.
I recently saw a Marina wing on Ebay for £235 (not sure whether it sold or not) but as they get scarcer prices are only going to go one way, and eventually £158 for a Marina wing ( if they can make them a decent fit) brand new, with no surface rust or little dings to contend with like the ebay ones usually have) will seem reasonable. As I said earlier its all about economies of scale - if someone went along to them placed an order for say a couple of thousand Marina wings then they could probably knock then out for £70-80 a piece, but there's no realistic chance of that is there?

A thousand left and a thousand right wings at say £70 would cost £14k. With say 600 Marinas and Itals that's almost one and a half pairs per car. I would guess that it would take 10-15 years to sell them. To cover the cost of borrowing that amount of money and repaying it over 15 years would mean that we would need to sell them at around £150 a piece.

That's pretty much what I would expect Chris, which tallys closely with the price of the re-tooled standard Escort ones. I'd hazard a guess that the average price for a decent nos wing must be close to that now anyway, so I don't think £150 for a brand new rust free wing that requires no fettling is too bad
really. What do you think?
But then its all hypothetical really anyway - 14K is a large sum to find/borrow in the first place, assuming it could be raised where would such a large number of wings be stored over that period time and at what cost?

I have heard back from Imperial/Hadrian - they don't have wings or any presses etc. for Mrinas. The Sales Director did however confirm that they will continue to make sills and headlamp panels - so some good news.

Good news indeed Chris, as hadrian made sills for both saloons and coupe/vans. If I remember rightly they were around £17 each, with the added bonus that they have stockists all over the place and are therefore easy to get hold of without having to pay postage etc. Are they now going to put these back on the online catalogue then?
