I agree, and there is nothing stopping Ben from changing the domain name if he wishes to, and a big benefit of making the change will be to make us seem less ridiculous in the eyes of other brand car owners, and make them work a bit harder to find this forum next time they want a laugh!

I see they're one programme into the series and have alienated/pissed off the Scouting movement AND the Roman Catholic church. One day he will upset someone bigger and more powerful than him (and it couldn't come too soon for the bullying oaf).

Unfortunately many classic car people think only rare or exotic or "special" deserve to be called "classics". Lotus Cortinas, but not the base models.
Perhaps MGB owners are still miffed that the TC is quicker than the MGB GT?
Maybe the site needs some fast Marinas on the home page - the Special Tuning rally cars, the Foden rallyraid V8,
Glen Thompson's
NZ race car.
During the '80s, someone raced a mid-engined V8 Marina in New Zealand. One day I'll find some pics of it...

When I first spoke to Howie Pressman on BBC Radio Sheffield and i mentioned the name of the site was "
www.Fastmarinamagazine.com" he nearly fell of his chair laughing, he found the name so funny he couldn't resist the temptation to try and tell all the listing audience of this bizarre Morris Marina site name, thankfully i talked him out of this.
I know i made jokes about the Marina and British Leyland, working on the policy of "attack is the best form of defence" but i really couldn't defend "FAST-MARINA -magazine,and possibly this is one of the most often said comments to me "there was no such thing as as fast marina" I'm sure when Ben chose the name for his site and he did it very much tongue in cheek and good on him for that, but the danger in this is if we want the Marina to have more mainstream acceptance, removal such an obvious target area as "fastmarina" my improve the chances, although a little staid and boring "The Morris Marina and Ital forum" does sound a lot more credible.

Is that what they mean by 'oxymoron'..?

Isn't an oxymoron what a stupid person uses on their zits?
The other thing that Ben wanted to do was to ensure that no-one directly linked the website to any one Marina club. I know that he felt that the Marina community was small enough that any divide along club lines would reduce the value of the forum. Despite being a club committee member, I think for the purposes of the forum he was right.

Ay up Chris,
I think the sentiment that Ben tried to instill of a forum for all Marina and ital enthusiasts regardless of club was a very noble gesture, sadly on a negative side, the name "Fast Marina" although originally meant in a humorous manner,is really inappropriate turning the initial "in-joke" now sadly to a joke that has back fired against the very people who were making the gag in the fist place "the Marina owner"
Great forum,terrible name.

I like the forum, but as i said before don't like the name, the marinamagazine bit is ok the fast bit isn't,people have to me have said to me,fast marina magazine, more like slow, rotten, bad,or rubbish, ect, ect, ect,i know this is not true but the Top Gear viewers and such seize on this and turn it against us,don't give anyone ammunition to fire at you unless you can handle the come back.I know the person who set the site Ben did so with his own money so i suppose he could name it what he wanted, just seems to me a shame that a better name wasn't used at first.

I really don't think the forum should have to think about changing its name. I like the irony and I'm sure others do too, if we seriously think about asking Ben to change the name, then all we show is that bullying works. Are'nt a group of people allowed to subscribe to a forum without incurring schoolyard ridicule? It's a valuable resource and I'm glad it exists. Respect to Ben for setting it up in the first place.

I don't think that anyone has asked to change the forum name,it's only been mentioned that it could be if wanted. The name that is meant to be a joke implies that we are,i agree that you can call yourself what you want, but this sets you up from the start why do this?
Novelty name=novelty car,why draw negative attention when there's no need too?

Hang on, aren't we missing the point here arguing about forum titles. Let look at the evidence from a contemporary magazine article: HOT CAR September 1971- "MIGHTY MARINA - Rally car power for BLs Coupe:
PERFORMANCE: 0-30 MPH.......2.6 SECS
0-40 MPH.......3.8 SECS
0-50 MPH.......6.1 SECS
0-60 MPH.......8.1 SECS
Standing 1/4 mile................15.3 secs
And thats Group Two Mods with just alteration of basically standard components - no eight port heads or altered inlet manifolding."
Sounds reasonably fast to me.

Sorry to disagree i don't think that one car that was fast (in modifed rally car form really counts) i wasn't aware of this car and i will guarantee that the rest of world don't know of it either, especialy the Top Gear viewers and the like,so prehaps FAST-marina-magazine is the correct name for the forum,as there was at least one fast Marina made.

Well actually Alan anyone could have one:
"We did it for Brian Culcheth. His Marina was built and prepared by British Leyland Special Tuning at Abingdon. And we can do it for yours. At Leyland ST we can build you a works 8 port head developing 120+ BHP from your 1.3 engine, full competition suspension, in fact the whole Brian Culcheth bit...."
From an advert in Car and Car conversions RallyBook and competition directory 1975.
And just to prove that the ordinary bloke took them up on this:
"...After that came the Marina...it had every mod that was ever done to transform the Marina, and I liked it a lot. It had super torque, overdrive, would pull and pull, and that came from an engine that was as near as damn it two-litres, with Gp 5 and Gp6 engine modsthat had been developed for the MGB. It was a tough old thing and was good fun. I did the Manx rally in it, and once the suspension was sorted out it was pretty good. I ran it for three or four years." (From Old Stager mag 2007)
That was a chap by the name of Denis Cardell just an average club rally man from the 60s and 70s.
I get your point about the man in the street not knowing about such things, but this is the kind of thing we should use as our ammunition. This is the kind of evidence we should be using to put our argument across.
