Mk2 and Mk3 together, somebody in this street likes diesel Marinas

Someone emailed me a photo of the blue car earlier, it was in the background of a photo of one of the exhibits en route to the commercial vehicle show that was held there the other weekend- small world!

Trust your ears, if it sounds like you are over revving the engine then you are.Your speedo may actually be underestimating the real speed of the car if the gearbox or differential or speedo head are not the correct ones for a 1.3.Try getting a friend to follow you in any car with known correct speedo and then compare notes afterwards.
I spoke to a back street mechanic in Fgura about 300m away from where the 2 vans photograph was taken, he was renovating a Cortina Mk3 and had a Mk1 Granada and a Renault 4 sitting besides his workshop. He said that in Malta it is normal for all sorts of second hand parts made to fit to keep old cars on the road. The classic car scene in Malta is very much alive, with cars being passed down from father to son and treasured. If anyone here wants to see just about any 1970s or 1980s European or Japanese family car in everyday use there are still plenty all over the place in Malta. I saw 3 different white Ital vans in very tidy condition, and a good number of Mk2 and Mk 3 saloons.
Other classics like Morris 1300s,Minis,Allegros,Mazda 818,Datsun 1200 and 120Y,Toyota Corolla mk1 & 2,Hyundai Stellar,Commer Pig,Cortina Mk2 & 3,Escort Mk1 are easy to find in small towns away from Valetta.I enjoyed the buses and cars so much I will return in September/October for another 5 day holiday!
