Also Bryan, I think I found the engine number for that coupe. 1702 1462. Hopefully the right one, I dont have the best memory but I think I took the engine out of that coupe, put it in my orange one, then took that out for the SR20DET, then put it into my yellow coupe, and if I get this car Im looking at today, the engine will go into that

Actually I know it wasn't a mistake I've got proof he bought the coupe with another (its origional) plates attached, and then swapped them, but as I'm a fairly reasonable guy I just want him to front up and pay for some of the cost or the revin, which I think is completly fair, around $400. I think I would have paid $1000 for the car dereg if he had been honest about it.
I could use the plates, but its not really what I do, and it wont be a real 1750Tc anymore, which honestly will annoy me

What do you think? am I just being a bit picky here? or have I got a point?

Well thats alright, as long as you know he did it and it wasnt just pointing the blame (like I would have done)

I do agree that it's a fair point, I would do the same but I only paid $400 for the orange TC in the first place

I know its the wrong thing to do swapping plates, but I could be interested (if you weren't joking that is)

Also, turns out if you had asked a month ago I could've sent up literally a Marina boot full of window seals Ill have another look though, I know I still have a pair of TC back opening windows out there.
But the only seals I know I have for sure, would come out of my 1500 super, which arent opening windows so Im guessing thats no help?

Interesting that GF3905 is registered as being orange... I would've called it brown? And I know for a fact that it was the factory paint job... Maybe that engine previously came out of a different car before I got it now that I think about it, cause the car was a genuine TC, yet it had a single carb 1750 engine with the twins in the boot...

Actually can you have a look at the way the rear windows fit? I think there should be a plastic insert where they fit to the body, mines missing this also.

I paid a grand total of $650 for all four of my Marinas Thats because Im cheap though

Well obviously you thought it was near enough road legal. I wouldve paid that price for one nearly on the road, hell I almost bought that one!

I think these are the bits you're talking about, and there was never any plastic clip (windows had never been removed beforehand)

Thats where it goes into the body, the only bit is the little rubber piece that goes round the tab on the window

does it really matter? i used to pull avengers out of paddocks, swap my good vin/plates over, and nobody cared. i actually broke the vin plate and stamped out a new one on a bit of scrap ally. still passed warrants. my uncle had a 1980 mini with external hinges. to the same end as long as it says morris on the tappet cover its not going to matter what it came out of the factory with. hence why we were going for an o-series with the ute rather than datsun 1500.

my advice is that if it says '72 then stick with it. from jan 1st you will only have to pay $112 a year classic rego - not continuously - and that is a hell of a saving. a lot less risky than having it on exemption now that they've finally clued up to that trick.

It only matters to Mr Plod if he's having a bad day :shock: , your insurance company when you want to make a claim , or if you get a prick doing your warrant .

And it matters if you're trying to get top dollar for it as an original classic .

Yep did pay a bit much but sometimes it just can't be helped, it had me with yellow tc coupe, that was all I needed to spend all my savings :roll:

I agree with you that its a bit of tin, but the live plates say.
A) Its not a tc, ever,its just a plain jane sc.
b) its a 73 not a 72
C)I paid quite a bit for a live reg 72 Tc coupe.
d)my chassis number will always be wrong

I have the same issue as mines now apparently a 1976 white sedan with a 1.8 in it :roll:

The way to get good deals is just to lowball people, or actually not have any more money to offer them (I use this option) and hope they take pity on you

yuck. don't insult me by implying that i like steinlager. i have tastebuds.

i need its bonnet, seats, belts, doors with opening quarterlights, bumpers, grill, spotlights, spoiler, ignition, floor pan, 2 speed wiper motor, passenger sun visor, brake booster + system... i'm getting my money's worth on this one.

All good I'm after some bits that you have'nt mentioned, so I guess I'll pop down and meet up with ya next week or weekend sometime, I'll try to bring a van taillight with me.

All is well here, my rather expensive Marina has become quite a bit cheaper after the seller called me and turned up at my house carrying a cash compensation and the old plates, I am a very happy man Proof that all can be worked amicably as long as you dont lose your head.

Marina coupe +rust there will be some orange 1750 plates available for you shortly, going to revin mine first and hope it doesn't come up with any nastys

Since this thread is for Aussie Marinas, anybody happen to have any pictures of Aussie sedans? went and looked at the one this morning (nice orange colour although a bit rough) and need some motivation to help me decide between buying that, or a Morris Minor I also looked at this morning... I dont have anything against the Morry thou, I've even bought a couple , but I regreted it immediately on driving them, I love the shape, but they really feel like an old car, they're perfect for popping around town or a Sunday jaunt, but not for using every day, they are really slow, which is good because they don't have brakes and wont go round a corner .
I know this sounds like Minor bashing, but I think most people will agree that they are not really a daily driver unless you dont have far to go, or you update them considerably with Marina bits (and then their actually quite good, but don't tell anyone )

Marina's are loads more practical as a daily smoker, esp in 1500 or 1750 form, just because they are a so much newer car, and people expected so much more from a car by 1971.

However, if I listened to my own advice I'd have a nice shiny new Toyota Corolla in my garage, not a Marina Coupe, 2 Rambler Rebels, a 1974 Transit van, a 74 Renault 17 Coupe and a 1982 xl250 Honda.(I would probably also have money in my bank and not have dirty hands all the time)

So if you dont have too far to drive every day, and fancy a Minor they are quite reliable and have an unbelievably good parts supply, and EVERYONE loves them, nanna's, cops, and girls all think they are cool.

However I have got a set of Ozzy 1750 plates kicking around with your name on them
