Police have to have reasonable suspicion that an offence is, has, or is about to take place to confiscate cameras. They can be heavy handed, but then thay can also be a bit too soft. They're humans.
Carrying an ID card diffuses any situation almost before it even becomes a situation. I'm not offended by carrying one. A policeman has the power to hold someone until they are satisfied that they are who that person is who they say they are. And quite right too.
If they aprehend someone creeping round your house and the guy says he is Joe Bloggs. How upset would you be if it turns out he wasn't and they'd let him go?
I know where you're coming from with the Jew angle and as it happens I do know a few who, I wouldn't say are happy, but certainly aren't bothered.
