This one has come up many times in the past...usually at shows and most often from Ford boys, who`m I usually knock back with a casual " ok so you don`t like the Marina but do you like the Cortina1600E?", to which most honest Ford enthusiasts will of course answer a firm " yes" , then it`s in for the kill with "well it may surprise you to know they were both designed by the same man...Roy Haynes ;)
Generally though, these days it is pretty much as Brian (Martec) has already said, mostly praise and admiration, I think we made a good choice guys 8-)

My standard answer was "Have you ever had one"... response was usually "No" to which my retort would be "I prefer to make my own mind up about cars rather than regurgitating what I see on TV or read on the internet".

Personally, I believe it won't be long until these cars start becoming unaffordable.

Owning a Marina is like owning an Edsel.

"Everybody" knows they're 'not a good car'
But how many have ever driven one let alone owned one? - bugger-all! :mr green:
And how many can say why they're not good? - about the same amount.

Used to get similar comments about my F100 - now 'cos it's that much older it's much admired.

I reply that these cars can do something very few other cars can do.

"Appreciate.!"

Every Marina I have ever sold earned me more than I spent on it.
Some stupendously.

Crap cars eh.? :-D

My uncle Tony would never buy any car that wasn't British, he had a brand new Princess in 77, lots of things went wrong with it.
He had it for 15 years, and after he fixed the build errors (door handles not bolted on, missing washers, loose wires etc) it was a great car.

When I bought my first car it had to be British (mini) and because I was a poor college student BL products were all I could afford.
The Marina was by far the best of BL, rear wheel drive, simple to work on, VERY cheap and mostly reliable.
In fact here's a photo of "Purple Hazel" my favourite car of all time, and believe me I've had a few.
Ben, Vicx, Jaime and purple hazel.jpg
Nothing really seemed to be quite as Magical as the time I spent with that car, I sold it when I went to OZ in 97 and fully regretted it ever since, it was a 74 SDL in Aconite? (looks blue but it was very purple) and it was mint, I bought it off a Vicar!!!! 8-)
