Received renewal from Lancaster this month, combined Premium and Policy Fee gone up 59%, no changes to my details from previous year. The increase is mainly due to Policy Fee up from £15 to £45 although the Premium has increased 35%. Was Ageas Optima policy now they are quoting on Allianz. Been contacted by phone and told them not impressed and reckon the policy fee increase is because of their sponsorship of MG owners and classic car shows which they denied but the money has to come from somewhere. Lancaster was not prepared for any negotiation and did not seem bothered about losing a customer.

The annoying thing about the policy change is that it no longer has the driving other cars (not owned by policyholder) section included which I found to be the case with other insurers in previous years. Out of curiosity I asked Lancaster how much for a policy which included this and was informed £400 a mere £235 more than their renewal figure. So it appears to be goodbye to them and seek out better value elsewhere where the same no driving other vehicles will apply.

I sorted the vans insurance with Footman James using the clubs discount (10%) - worked out at £110. Lovely :-)

Have checked out the Hagerty quotation service but no use for me because it insists on 'Your vehicle value must be at least £2,500' and I usually place a value of £1000 on my vehicle.

Hagerty have an online valuation tool, enter MORRIS, models shown Mini, Minor, Oxford and Six, Hm!! What about the Marina?

Another problem which is often encountered when hunting around for quotes is the insistance on the proposer having the use of another vehicle, Gott and Wynne falls into this category. I currently do not need another vehicle, too much of a headache sitting in heavy traffic as well as no good for vehicle so walk or use public transport, the Marina is there for me when I need it.

Ian if you call Hagerty you'll get a quote, their website is set up for just standard higher value risks. Alternately confirm the car is worth £3000 and see what the quote says.

Thanks Chris, I will speak to Hagerty next week, although it looks as if they are going to fall into the 'other vehicle' category I referred to previously because when I enter £2500 for valuation with no access to other vehicle I receive:-

For interest I attempted to obtain a quote as if I had use of another vehicle but it appeared as if their system had gone out for Christmas lunch as it hung indefinitely when returning 'Your Quotes'.

Footman James quote competitive but without the 'use of other vehicles' extension. Confounded nuisance Lancaster decided to make changes I always hate this hunting around, same with house insurance.

Thanks for your email. Unfortunately we cannot offer cover for people who only own a classic vehicle. For this policy we need each client to own and insure a ‘modern’ car elsewhere.

Anyone on here had recent dealings with FLUX insurance?

There is Adrian Flux and FLUXDIRECT, they have the same Financial Conduct Authority registration number.
Using insureaclassiccar.co.uk which is a comparison site similar to the more well known ones I received a comprehensive quote from FLUXDIRECT of £64.75, staggeringly inexpensive, substantially less than the £110 from Adrian Flux. I need to check out both of these again thoroughly to ensure details match, something strange here. The £110 is similar to Footman James quote.

There are some online forums which are not very complimentary about Flux, bunch of crooks, never use again etc. etc., but you cannot always take note of reviews of this type because by nature it is generally only those that have complaints who vent their feelings.

Use Adrian Flux for my daily car for 10 years or so now. Always competitive but never had to claim so you never know until that happens!

Thats interesting Ben, I had classic cars insured with Footman James for years then when I bought my van they would not cover it so I moved away from them. That was about 6 years ago mind and I have been with RH Specialist insurance since which cover my 4 cars and van altogether.
