Err Paul, not meaning to sound disrespectful but you are not correct.

The shell will take the power, I know people that have “the know howâ€￾ mate and actually it is stronger than an escort. The gearbox mounts are only temporary, it's location is inline for the ford spacing on the front mounts. Zetec's have mid mounted mountings for weight. There is bracing going into the places where it needs them most, Don't worry there are people out there that know quite a lot about building hot rods and most of them have done this type of thing before. I have spoken to Caterham about the Marina axle and it is fine for now, I have a capri 2.8 LSD baby axle for the future.

As I have said before I did not just bolt in some engine in the hope that it would work.. This has been done professionally.

Why did I use a TC shell.. Simple. It was the best that I had and unlike some people I'd rather not spend money on a dead beat super shell that I do not know, needs more work and isn't what I want. My money, my car, my prerogative. At least it is still on the road and is an example of what can be done to Marina's in the future. Spend some decent money on the cars!!!!!!

Ihavent read most of this thred (first 3 pages). Your gearbox mounts need load spreading plats. The front mount brackets need a box comming forward to the x member, the x member needs bracing. The TC axel will not 120 bhp, i have been down this route. The halfshafts craze and fetuige at the hub verry quick. My LSD axels havs shafts that are 1/2" thicker to cope with just under 105 bhp. With all the load plates the car has put on weight to a ton.

To top the lot the shell on the MK1 is designed to be strong against tourtion with a relatvly slow rpm motor. The escort shell + 1.3/1.6/2.0 Capri shell were designd as a spring for high rpm motors. The 1.8/2.8 shell are somthing similer to the marina. Moggy minor shell works difrent again. Design is not somthing you can just step into. If your going to do somthing, do it right and use it.

Now my opinion.... why didnt you use a super shell?? TC's have to be saved, delux have to be saved as pepole ignor them. Super's are 2 a penney compared with the rest
An informed opinion from somebody who's had first hand experience, AND has the technical abilities to carry out modifications PROPERLY, and not just pay others to do the work for them
Some people could take note of this don't you think?

WHAT?

Don't give me that bull Brian! Jumping on the back of someone’s opinion so that you can give another dig eh? Paul's opinions are valid but I have to disagree. And yes I got a company to help me out on the bodywork and engine mounts but why should I struggle to do it myself? I've known them for years and the owner is a good friend of mine. I've moved out of the "garden shed" thought box and have generated a professional installation! There are so many good guys and gal's out there that have created custom cars and hot rods over the years and now more than ever there is a need to just think differently. I tell you what I will do. I will have a proper SVA type engineer look over the car before it goes on the road. I don't need too but it will be an interesting exercise. Oh and if you hadn't guessed yet... It's not finished!!!!!

You know this has become so tiresome it is untrue. Your constant bickering about my car really is pathetic. What you fail to realise is that there is a new age of people out there working on and modifying there classic cars. I'm sorry but you are not the boy wonder you think you are. You do not have all the answers, you may have all the bull Sh*te but that's about it. The amount of people I have heard talking about your boll***s is unbelievable! You know what though I can believe it because you are so very bitter about everything! What’s the matter? Has it got something to do with my fitting a modern engine into a Marina before you got the chance? Well I've heard you have talked about it but that's about it.. You know there is a theory that if you talk so much bull you actually begin to believe that it is true... Ring any bells?

Amazing, you are all into saving and driving your choice of classic car, yet instead of supporting and understanding each other, whether you keep it standard or modified, you become rather small minded and force yourslves into bigoted 'camps'.
We had this situation with Morris Minors some years ago , but this has improved over time so that basically we all appreciate each other efforts no matter how far they stray from your own preference.
I must answer/counter Eloues comments regarding the mods to Bens car. The engine mountings are designed along the same principle as the ones we have successfully used for the last 14 years in the Minor be it with a Fiat TC or K series or most recently the Zetec. The gearbox mount is a work in progress , due to time limitations. The idea was to use as many standard parts as possible, hence the Ford cross member. This might well be replaced with a similar one we use in our own conversions.
The Marina axle will easily take 120bhp, and anyway its torque not bhp that you should be looking at here. I have run a 160bhp injected Fiat motor in a Minor for 5 years with no ill effects, and yes we do check and test parts for suitability.
General,
I'd keep the comments to act as a reminder ,that you are all persuing the same aim,'to use and preserve' the Marina, no matter how you achieve this. :D

Kit car, kit car, it's a kit car, nothing more nothing less, waste of money should have stuck with your Capri
Trust me when I say I wouldn't bother sinking thousands into a dead duck project, ESPECIALLY one based on a marina, they are horrible to drive, thirsty, and SLOW, that's the charm of the damned things.
So stick that in your pipe and smoke it DILUTEY!
Ring any bells?
I'd certainly be interested to know who is going to be cheering when your little project goes tits up.
Answers on a postcard please

As a real engineer Brian, on what do you base your judgement that Bens car will 'go tits up'
Why is it a kit car, when there is clear documentation of what a kit car is . This has its original shell just different running gear.
Why so bitter too, Ben wants to improve the driving pleasure of his Marina and has tried the more established routes, but stuck with the idea of a mechanical swap. I think sometimes'one' forgets that BL developed the Marina from its original design and spec to what it became in its last incarnation. This is product development so try and view Ben's work as such
Whats the hang up over people spending 'their' hard earned on their cars, you could spend more than Ben, in creating a concourse Marina, yet this would be more acceptable to you.
  keep taking the chill pills
