wow!! The force involved to do that would have been pretty serious! Must have hit a curb really hard some point in it's life.

Steering rack back on feels much better and no knocking noise first time since I had the car! Hooray! Thought id better check that side for any hidden damage or creases, nothing obvious though it may have had a new wing as that wing is a lot less rust? Just tracking now, anyone know are those roll over gunson trackrites anygood?

Sounds like it took a big hit to that side at some time. Someone pulling out of a junction with out looking would be my guess?

I was thinking maybe a slide into a kerb, the wheel hits the kerb whilst on lock and the full weight of the car goes through the steering arm and rack.

Fitted a replacement ignition switch on the van today, never had one of these fail before until now. As soon as I let go of the key the van stopped, made for an interesting drive home. Easy fix though, had spares on the shelf.

Today, I drove my Marina Coupe 1300 for the first time. I wrote off my Triumph 1300 in November, and bought the Marina with my insurance pay-out. However, having broken my ankle in the prang, I wasn't able to drive it. I had the plaster removed yesterday, so today , I cautiously, did about 15 miles. What a super little car it is. I had Allegros back in my youth, but the Marina is a new experience .
Thanks for the support within the club, on a few technical items.

Battery went flat on PTH the other week (dynamo ) charged it and she run fine... for three seconds then died! No fuel getting to carb.
Checked the pump, pipes etc and found the pipe going from the reservoir to jet had a kink in it. Easy fix I thought as I had spares but as is sods law my spare jet was different! The hole where the rod for the choke fits is facing a different way so had to remove the pipe from that and fit it to the old jet. It's a tight fit and little bits went everywhere when I pulled on it! Eventually found the bits and gave the bowl a much needed clean too. It's back together now but the battery is dead again from earlier trying to figure out why she wouldn't start so hopefully all will be well in couple of hours.

Went for a drive to Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Plymouth and hit the six's.

Wow still got some to catch mine on the miles.
I would be worried if it just stayed six's and stopped moving on

My ute went to 00000 just before hristmas - and I forgot to photograph it, damn!

On the good news side of things - I have been given another ute FREE!
But it's in pretty bad shape what with rust (Ex farm ute) and birds have been nesting and pooping all over the interior.
But it has a good front bumper with spot-light mounts already fitted and the windscreen is intact plus various other useful bits are still on it.

Just need a tractor with forks to lift it up as it has settled into the ground up to the rims.

Today, I replaced the "iffy" ignition/steering lock assembly.
Having done this, I thought I would wash it for the first time.
A bit of a panic, when I found the passenger foot well full of water! Is this normal?

Many of my Marinas have suffered from wet footwells.
Initially I suspected the front screen seal - but I finally proved that was not the culprit.
I found that mostly the water came out of the door and ran down the inside of the door card, thus making it past all the door seals.
If you look at the rear edge of a front door while it is open you can see that water getting down the outer side of the window glass can drop directly to the rear side of the door card.
Given time, it also ruins the lower edge of the door card.

This door still has what the earlier cars used to avoid the problem.




The flap of white plastic sheet deflects any water back into the bottom of the door where it can drain to the outside.
The Mk 3's I own simply had adhesive tape covering the entire lower aperture - so eventually the water found its way past the tape and came inside.
Of course - many doors have no covering here at all because it has been removed for access to window regulator and the like, and never replaced..
