Manuals always state you can adjust the float by inserting a 1/8" drill and bending the arm on the float until it just rests on the drill when the needle is seated. I've never tried it. Last time I had a new lid and float assembly was for the HS2 on my Hornet when the old one got grit in it and was pouring fuel all over the place. I'd already got it handy along with an inline filter and some braided fuel hose. Spent an hour fitting everything when I should have been driving to a show (the stench of neat petrol put a stop to that) and I never had any trouble with carb fuel leaks after that.

I gave REP a good polish and got her up and running  She may be sold this week so took the opportunity to take a pic of all three before she go's.

Visited a small car show today and met up with the new owner of REP who also brought along his 1.8
You very rarely get to see even one Marina at any show but today there were four
The cars got an amazing amount of attention and most of the day was spent talking with folks who either owned one at one time or were just shocked to actually see so many in one place. My dress sense was a bit of a hit too

Gave car a good check over as it has not moved for 6 months and hopefully it will be coming back home next weekend Yey!
Brakes and clutch perfect and got oil pressure up before firing.
Needs a good clean and hopefully I can use it on good winter days.

I took my Marina to the Sevenoaks Classic Car Night in Stanton, except it wasn't classic car night because it finished last month. I made two visits in May and June (in my modern car!) but couldn't get to the others. Still, there was a bloke in a beige MkV Cortina tonight who'd done the same as me and just turned up, and apart from the beer drinkers and people going for a meal filling the car park up, his son turned up with a mate in a Lexus so we had a little crowd of four. I remembered from earlier in the year the guy with the Cortina being there in Mk1 automatic that seemed to be having similar starting problems to those my Marina had, so he took quite a bit of interest in Kilroy's starter circuit mod fitted to my car. I've took his contact details so I can revisit the pages on the forum (because I can't remember how it was wired! ) so I can get back to him and hopefully give him some insight as to how he can modify his Cortina automatic.

I contacted Specialist Components to ask about some additional exhaust pipe bends, to sort out the exhaust system. I chased telephone calls through three companies to find the company that fabricated the manifold and downpipes and ordered some 304 stainless steel 90 degree bends with the correct 38.2mm internal diameter, for the new secondary pipes.

I took the propshaft over to Bailey Morris in Eaton Socon, to have a new prop front section created 30mm longer than the existing one.

Worked on plans E, F & G for the inlet side as there is only limited space between the throttle bodies and the inner wing.

Hunted without success for someone in Bedford to weld up some aluminium fabrication, for inlet manifold version H.

Nothing I've done, and not something anyone has done today, but this popped up on a "saved from the scrapyard" thread on Retro Rides the other day:

"My brother visited a local yard about 15 years ago and found a chap about to drive a one owner from new mk1 1800 marina estate in. Having stopped it from being crushed the owner then drove it to my house the following weekend and for £50 it was mine.
I used it as a daily for several years, including dragging a caravan from here in cornwall to Wales for a weeks hols, until 2009 when it was sold due to me loosing my workshop."

The car in question is of course Mud- her rescuer is an occasional poster on here and I knew she was saved from being scrapped but I hadn't realised it was quite that close!

Have you got any pics of how mud is coming along with Frank as he doesn't post on here anymore and I'm not on Facebook for work reasons. Would be nice to see how its doing.
