Just sent you a PM about the stainless Walkers box. One question (because I didn't look and take note when I had a back box on the car!) how does it hang? Is it just a strap that wraps around the tail pipe that should still be with my car, or do I need to buy something?

What ou need is one of these, it bolts up behind the rear valance

I'll have a look under my car when I get back home, see if its still there. Just couldn't remember. I know some systems have hooks welded on to the silencer, but obviously not the Marina.

Bracket is in passenger footwell. No worries.

Yes it's there. Not quite as mint as this one, but serviceable. I might consider new brackets and straps if and when I go for the full stainless system, but just to get it back on the road making a legal amount of noise, Baz's Ital back box should do it.

His mick pm you again regarding delivery swan neck is the same as your old one no difference just box more rounded I think bl decided to use this type of box to make them quiter dad's got this on Ital no problem and I've got one on my mk3 cheers baz

Nope - that strap supports the back of the centre silencer. There is a captive bolt on the underside of the body above the silencer, that goes through the hole in the open end of the strap. The curved plate is caught under the U bolt that joins the centre box to the rear swan neck and tail box.

Yes, sorry, wrong strap though you do need one just a little shorter than the one pictured. Usually made from woven fabric.

Here are some photos of the old sod not on my driveway, not on axle stands, not with its bonnet up, not with its arse-end poking out of my garage with a sheet thrown over it, but - shock horror - actually DRIVEN somewhere! All of about two miles from home, in a scenic setting, but after a roughly twenty mile 'shakedown' run. Only took a year and three months to become usable. Okay I'm fairly lazy and not 18 any more and don't relish getting my hands dirty every weekend like I once did, but hey, its been difficult at times with this one. And there's still a lot to do to it, like fix the transmission leak, probably replace all the tyres, see if I can have the odd crease ironed out of the bodywork....but it actually GOES now! And I did seem to enjoy driving it.... in fact for a 41 year old car with a reputation for bad road manners, I thought it drove very well. Of course, I didn't try cornering on two wheels like every modern car driver does now....

My voltage stabiliser quit part way through my journey again, but then came back to life after about five minutes. And just before putting it away I put about 100ml of mineral transmission fluid in it while it was hot, to bring it back to just below the 'H' on the dip stick. It was on about half before, which is just what it has lost more or less standing in my garage for six months since the last time I topped it up. At least it wasn't the half-litre I had to put in it the first time I checked the level with a hot transmission, but obviously until I get the leak attended to, I will have to keep a close eye on those levels. Otherwise, the auto transmission appears to be working normally. The car is a bit like an old Supermarine Spitfire on idle until it properly warms up, and even when hot, the engine rocks like an old lady in a rocking chair on tickover. Rev it though and it sounds fairly smooth. And now at least it does appear to have some 'oomph'... I had it up to sixty on the A52, no trouble, but did most of my run on that road at a more comfortable 55mph. And with that new re-cored radiator, even on a day like today, the temperature gauge needle (when the voltage stabiliser works) never reaches halfway.
