Yes it's the lift pump, she's low on fuel (good indicator noise). The other loud noise you can hear is a grinder from another unit. Quite happy with it starting like it did, it's not fired for 4 months.

Took my ute in for a Warrant of Fitness yesterday - it failed due to rust around the front jacking-points, the bottom part of the body just on front of where the sill meets the body behind the lower front guard (wing for you Poms!).

ANd where a 'tab' runs up from about 10" behind the handbrake up to the rail running across behind the seat-backs.

Got a quote of $380 to fix it!

The front jacking points and front wing/sill/A post area is a very common rot spot. The jacking points and wings get clogged up with mud and it seems people seldom bothered to clear out the drainage points provided back when Marinas were just cheap transport. It's even worse with mud flaps fitted as you cant get at the wing/A post area to clear all the mud out!

Are you going to be repairing her? Might be worth asking round in a few local car clubs and see if you can find someone whose handy with a welder and willing to do it for beer money

Insured mine, just over £600 fully comp with Adrian Flux on a classic policy, not bad

Not as good as the Pug which was £474 fully comp from Aviva

Got a mate who does this for a living to fix it - he's the one charging the $380!

The thing is I want it done NOW as I want to keep using it, the ute is our 'daily-dray' - 'cos it's handy, nimble in town and most of all it's twice as economical as the '2nd car on the rank' - the mrs Oldsmobile!

I picked up my new one today.

Tweaked the ignition curve, adjusted the fuelling and got it pulling nicely then on a test drive it popped a core plug
Think engine is ok but slightly hacked off..........

Not a good feeling no doubt but not hard to fix either.
Put a bit of sealer round the new one and use a centre punch in 4 positions around the perimeter to peen out the edges of the hole. That'll keep it in next time.

David, All I did with my core plugs was to ensure the hole is clean and plug fits in loose. Then apply some Loktite instant gasket and then place a large ball pain hammer one the center of the plug give the hammer a whack a feew times with another hammer so you keep it in the very center and don't dish it to far or it will go loose again.
When you have done that another smear of instant gasket and your done.
So far no problems.
I expect now there will be a little bit of rust holding them in nicely

Thanks Paul. Just annoyed that another thing I've paid good money for professionals to do aren't right. Should have learnt that if you want things done properly.........
And it's on the difficult side!
I was getting the car ready so we can do a dry run of the proposed road run for the nationals tomorrow. So now out of SIX marinas owned by the 3 of us none are road worthy.... Sad eh?
