It was a while ago, 2017 I think, but I downloaded and printed off and subsequently filled in a form that must be the V10 you refer to, went along to my local road tax issuing post office and handed all the relevant documents over. It was staffed by youngish people and there was a bit of muttering and conferring over the information presented to them on their computer screen, then they handed me back the V10 as not required, retained my V5C and it came back ‘historic’ in next to no time, quibble free. Sounds a bit like the DVLA is up to its usual left hand not knowing what the right is doing. Though I did do it at road tax renewal time, not before.

Today I finally did what I bought the car for. I took it for a good long drive. 80 miles around parts of Worcestershire and Herefordshire. Lovely weather for it and every mile was a pleasure.

I fitted a new wing this week. As usual (for me) it was a bit tougher than I thought it'd be. And filled a hole and painted it badly (for now)

Great stuff, it's a good feeling putting some new solid metal on your car isn't it?
I wouldn't worry too much, almost every job turns out to be tougher than you think they're going to be, or take longer than you expect.

Yes, I am pleased with new metal. I replaced the steering rack a few weeks ago. I also fitted a 3.27 ratio diff and replaced the prop Center bearing. These are jobs that I’ve put off for a year or so but I had no excuse, what with the weather being fine!
It’s funny because I can easily talk myself out of doing stuff to the car but sometimes I just have to get on with it.

Incidentally, the diff is really quite good at that crucial 60-70mph range (less twitchy). I was told it was a re-built unit, however, there’s a distinct whine between 35 and 55mph. A bit disappointing but I’ll live with it. (Spitfire/Herald unit)
It did cross my mind to fit wider wheels and fit 185/80 x 13 tyres to get the same effect on gearing. Anyone done that? I did fit them to my old Victor and they looked good.

If you search the forum you will find diff ratios and tyre sizes are some of the most discussed topics on here :)

Managed to get a couple of coats of high build zinc primer onto the new wing of my saloon before the heavens opened:
