I did a few minor jobs in readiness.
Oil and anti freeze change. Tyres pumped etc. Clean plugs dizzy stuff.
Some other club related things to finish but should be done in time.
I'll be bringing a front spoiler, NOS 1.3 camshaft, Rookee dash parts and reproduction spot brackets for sale with donations to club panel fund if sold. So far there's around £110 going from previous transactions into the pot which may help to stock up at least a panel or two for people's restos.

Having just bought a Marina 1.3 saloon 1980 vintage found it ran hot, so have purchased a replacement water pump and checked the Rad.
Local Rad experts are going to look at it and re-core if necessary so today removed rad for rectification.
£ day turn around so hope by next week to be mobile again!

Found the cause of the breakdown on the way to the nationals. The filter attached to the sender unit in the tank. The question is as I have a filter further upstream shall I leave it out? Should stop this again!

I’d clean out the tank and fit a new filter. That doesn’t look too pleasant!

The inside of the tank is now clean,it seemed covered in a sticky grey film. Filter has cleaned up a treat. I’ll leave it in. A coat of schutz,a new breather pipe and back in again. Thanks Ben

That did look very gluey?
I had to wash out my tank as some over spray was in the filler neck which the petrol removed and ended up on the filter in the tank.

I have just bought an endoscope so I think I will have a look in my tank and see what my filter is like! I have lots of uses for this thing including checking the inaccessible roof gutter to see if its blocked
Just got to get a high reach vacuum now so I don't fall off a ladder emptying the gutter and end up in A+E.
Wonder if the modern fuel mix does this or a combination of fuel types?

I remember that a BMW windscreen washer filter went all slimy and blocked and it was due to mixing different types of washer fluid. Never had it happen since but now I only use one type.

My local Rad wizards had a look at my Rad and confirmed my suspicions that the core was blocked. Rad now re-cored and today I spent an enjoyable hour re-fitting said Rad. (How long would it take on a modern steed?)
Went in a treat and after a test run, engine runs cool. Tomorrow will refit the Thermostat but am wondering whether to fit a new Water Pump I bought (just in case) or not bother as I am a firm believer in "don't fix wot ain't broke".
Suggestions?
Tomorrow will also try to solve the problem of the exhaust silencer clattering against the chassis!!!!!!

Didn't change the water pump but added anti-freeze to the cooling system and checked the Thermostat, which seems a little lazy. Will order a new one tomorrow (just in case!).
Nasty rattle from under the car and found exhaust rattling against chassis so have dropped it slightly.
removed the quarter bumpers - all three of them as I have to find a replacement for the o/side rear. T'other 3 are broken at their fixing points but hopefully repairable with some Styrene or Acrylic and "Floplast" welding solvent, which seems to work on most plastics.

Before departing to the 2021 National I noticed I had what sounded like a mechanical clonk on a fast rev of the engine. It happened on every rev and only once. Almost sounded like a very loose tappet but that would do it all the time and not once every hard rev.
This worried me some what but after completing 500 plus miles over the weekend I assumed this was not a major issue.
I did some hunting for the noise when back with a long screw driver to the ear but could not locate the source of the noise. checked alternator, dizzy, timing chain, rockers, and the rest and nothing sounded like it was the source.
I had thoughts it could be the clutch release bearing sleeve rotating and hitting the pitched in stops, but could not confirm.
So today my uncle popped round who was a BL mechanic and owned my original Jubilee.

After a bit of chatting and listening and checking each carb we found where the noise was coming from.
It was the air filter! At first I could not believe this metallic clonk could be from the air filter.
I was not sure that something had been sucked in or put in there during a previous show!

On inspection of the air filter some of the element had got slightly squashed which opened the filter and probably allowing more air flow through that area. I guess it was like a paper / card banger.
If one carb throttle was flicked it would not do it and same if the other carb throttle was flicked. It only did this noise when both carbs throttles were used.
We took off the air cleaner and noise went. After inspecting the filter there was no strange objects rattling around. Then we turned the air filter round and refitted. This changed the clonk to a more of a gentle rasp.
There were no holes in the filter or tears it looked fine apart from the slight squashing in 2 places where the element had opened larger.
I am now happy there is no issue elsewhere and can sleep easy! Thanks to my uncle popping round.

So unexplained clonk can be the most obscure thing.
Wonder if any other TCs have this? Or it may just be this air filter which is NOS so could be dry and old a bit like me

Went for a nice drive over to Lincolnshire, ended up calling at RAF Scampton, home of the Red Arrows. Not much going on but a nice place for a picnic.
Unfortunately on the drive home I drove too close to a very high mini roundabout grounding the front of the exhaust and splitting the manifold right above the down pipe clamp.
As such I urgently need a replacement single carb 1.8 manifold if anyone has a spare?

Hi Barry, I'll take you up on that next time mate, cheers!

Replaced the broken manifold with the one Josh kindly sent.
Odd that three gaskets are needed for the carb spacer block and bracketery but only two are provided in the gasket kit.
(Photos are in the wrong order but never mind)

Done that with a 1300. Glad you have it sorted.
