Is that a weakness in the manifold design, or do they rot or weaken there over time?

Bryan - as they are cast iron, they can be prone to shock loadings. If for example the tubular steel downpipe is grounded, the crystalline structure will suddenly fracture. The B series manifold is more robust than the A series manifold, which tend to crack between the inlet and exhaust ports, combinations of hot exhaust and cooler inlet air, combined with over tightened head nuts, make them quite prone to fracture.

I suppose the area just above the clamp is the weakest point and the hard cast iron is quite brittle. Didn't help it being mated to a stainless steel downpipe.
Tripped over a can of Simonize High Temp silver spray on my garage floor and, for a fleeting moment, was tempted to pssst, pssst some on the manifold to match the stainless downpipe. But the moment soon passed when I thought of masking all the flanges and common sense prevailed.

The Aussie E-series manifold is also prone to cracking between the two exhaust branches where they merge into the outlet pipe.

Fitted new old stock hazard switch in place of taped up broken one. Got reliable indicators and hazards now, phew!
The mk1 Marina hazard switch has spade terminals and is hard to find. However the early 70s MGB hazard switch is the same but with pin terminals. On my switch the locating pins on the rocker part of the switch had broken, however the housing part of the switch with the spade terminals was ok. If you are careful the rocker part from the MGB switch can be fitted into this rendering it serviceable again.

While spending a couple of days on the east coast, had a drive over to the 158 Squadron memorial at the site of the former RAF Lissett.
It's a stunning peice of work depicting a 7 man Halifax bomber crew. It has the names of all the 158 squadron crew that were lost etched into the metal.

Finally got the Marina back on its wheels after 11 months on stands.Put new grille & badges on it & will be taking it to All British Car Show.First time in a car show with this car.

Talking about exhausts has got me worried! Took Kermit aka my 1.3 apple Jack green marina out for a run with 3 friends and grounded the exhaust on a speed hump. Wasn't even going fast and had just tightened up the manifold clamp.
Will have to inspect when I get a moment. Can't remember having these problems 30 years ago
Must be the proliferation of traffic calming strategies these days.
Hoping to replace the fuel sender unit this week.
Have fitted an auxiliary cigarette lighter and USB port to the car so that I can operate Satnav and phone charger, but was careful not to compromise the originality of the car by not butchering the trim in any way. Direct feed off the battery with an inline fuse holder and voltmeter to ensure electrical safety. ( am I being too obsessive ?)
Wondering whether to fit a notek foglight next or is that over the top?

Do you need to use the ciggie lighter or usb port with the key off, or would it be safer wired off the ignition aux circuit? Although the separate fuse gives you twice as many as standard.

Did it the way I did cos it is easier to fit, but also rip out if necessary. Quite safe as fitted with a 3amp fuse and only being used for satnav and phone. Yes, speed bumps and mini roundabouts have sprouted up at an alarming rate over the last 20 years or so. Thing is the cars that the bumps are trying to stop now have such big wheels and wide track they can just zoom over them as if they aren't there!
Hope Kermit is ok. Hey, with a name like that it should be able to jump over the bumps

Might have to cobble up a ring spanner type gizmo, thingy!
Any ideas anyone?
Also trying to solve a knocking exhaust against the chassis rail. Appears previous owner cobbled up a system from parts so might eventually have to by a new system. But for now have to bodge it cos the boss has started to quibble!
(Think I heard waste of money, sh*theap, etc etc muttered. No soul !)

There is a BL Special tool number 18G1001 it can be bought from some mini and Jaguar sites I havent got one as always used a hammer and screwdriver

I have got one, if you were round the corner I would lend it but you can buy new rings if you break the one on there. Normally a sharp tap with a screwdriver evenly round on each lug shifts them.
