HOLY SH1T I took the blue saloon for a good run out tonight as it's in for it's mot in the morning nothing unusual there until I started to see clouds of smoke pouring from the front n/s front wheel, so better pull over I thought found suitable lay by and went to press brake pedal it went straight to the floor :x :x so I pulled it up with the handbrake and got out and liberally thew a half gallon of water I happen to carry with me onto wheel, clouds of steam later the brake cooled down off we went again 2 miles later same thing more water managed to limp home left the car for 30 mins to cool down before stripping front brakes came back out brake was free brake pedal back to normal and a subsequent second run out confirmed no sticking brakes
but will the fluid now need changing as it looks like it must have boiled it hence no brake pedal ?? and the heat must have freed the brake caliper ??

Hi Stu, yes you will probably need to change that fluid to be on the safe side, once it has boiled up, it loses a lot of its` qualities, and also there is a chance that air bubbles have got into the system
, so i would change it just to be sure, i would have a look at that caliper too while you are at it, to make sure it doesn`t happen again

I agree about the brake fluid and the caliper seal kit. If the caliper was that hot imagine what the heat has done to the rubber seals. Also check the grease in the inner and outer wheel bearing, I had one where the heat build up melted the grease and it ran out of the hub - great way of ruining the bearing.

well the good news is it passed ok brakes etc were spot on one advisory was slight play in bottom suspension joints which I was planning on changing anyway also the mot man suggested removing some of the old hard underseal as water tends to get in behind he suggested a yearly liberal dosing of old engine oil, he said it had been a nice experience working on an older car for a change then got onto how he owned a 74 tc coupe which he said was very fast

so what do you think this car is worth as it stands at the moment ?? I have been offered the car subject to a resonable price being agreed, it currently won't start not a great problem and will need general re commissioning I can't see any structural problems just seized brakes etc but your comments would be welcomed so I can offer a fair price
