Who in their right mind would pay a bag of sand for a car that’s totally rotten? If this was my car or someone offered it to me and I really liked it then I WOULD RESHELL it. Anyone have a problem with this? Besides I know of a Coupe shell that’s within 10 miles of me and is mint!

:? Evening Gentlmen. We appear to have had a bit off a disagreement over somehting decidely stiupid. The car in question seems from what i have read rotten and beyind economic or anything else considerd repair. If said car had original engine or even a Engine that was a marinas/Itals or somehting like it then fine. However it plainly isnt,The engine is worth more than the whole car.The seller is a comlete twat by all accounts. So whey not let hime to his delusions of granduer and his Bxxxxxdiest car to rot.If there was something worth saving from the shell then fine.BVit nothing i can think off on its own is woth 1000 quid.Come on guys is it worth falling out over :? Me thnks not

Just reading some of the posts, what planet is this guy on? A grand for a rotted to f**k Marina??? A grand of anybodys money would buy you a very nice and pretty much rot free Marina, regardless of whether or not it still has BL power under the bonnet or not, for a rotten Marina to be worth anything close to 1000 pounds it'd need to be something very very special that was worth it, like a genuine ex works BL rally car or a 1971 press car or even one of the 1970 built pre production cars. And while we're on the subject of originality, without restoration, quite simply, there would be hardly any such thing as a classic car, only the relative handful of original cars that have been cossetted their entire lives would be, and restoration allows more cars to survive. If it's wrong to reshell cars to keep them alive, why can you get brand new heritage shells for Minis and MGBs? And when you do that, you don't get a Q plate, if you've the paperwork and chassis plate off the original you use that, or you get the car re-registered with an age related plate if you don't.

Gentleman as mentioned before the seller thinks he has an ultra rare car,and deems the price reflective of the cars rarity value.
He is not phased by the fact the engine and gearbox are completely alien to the vehicle, for as he said to me "this can be put right" To get an idea of the storage facilities look at the pictures of Grahams T.C Jubilee (Jubilee on Practical Classics =Forum main page=) yet the 18 years of Derbyshire weather since it has been layed-up has not been as kind to this car.
I regret posting this item in the first place, i had no wish or intention of causing upset or disharmony on the forum,i think we all agree this car won't sell, and to echo Sean's point it's worth is not in the value of its parts but the potential to re-animate a rare G.T coupe, the most viable way of doing this is via re-shelling using this cars salvageable parts,in essence the log book being worth more than the car.
As to the history of the car i really don't have any idea and to respect the wishes of the seller i have agreed to keep his details off site.
I would hazard a guess that when this car fails to sell as the indications point to this, that a local breakers yard will wind up with this vehicle and any interested parties will be able to negotiate a more favourable deal with the yard owner than the original seller.
Perhaps at a realistic price this car could be saved? (but not without a lot of cash, time and effort)

*rolls eyes*
I go away for a weekend and you boys start playing up again!
Sean I think the goody two shoes was out of line as it was a simple quote of the DVLA big book of silliness, but Mick I don't think you can take stuff like that to heart and it would be sad to see you leave over something so trivial.
I think half an hour on the naughty step for everyone should do it.

Hi Sam,
I’m not going on any naughty step this time if I can help it! Mr pop took the entire topic out of proportion and so he set himself up for his own fall, not me. Mr pop clearly has nothing better to do with his time other ran read into things the wrong way then spend time thinking/ researching his counter argument.
If Mr Pop was to leave the forum because of this then it would be a shame, but for who? If truth were to be told then I honestly don't give a F**k what he does. However, if he was to talk sense and continue posting in other topics then there wouldn’t be a problem and I don't think that anybody would cast up old history.
Signed; Sean (Again not hiding behind keyboards, under mouse mats etc…)
