 Well said screaming lord stokes!, sounds like too much negativity going round here at the moment!, come on guys, get the joke and get over it!, i would hazard a guess that Ben called the site Fastmarinamagazine because that was what he was intending to create with his Ford Zetec Powered TC, that project seems to be on the back burner (now that he`s in love with all things horsey) , but i`m sure that was his original intention. As for fast Marinas, well they have always been easy to tune and modify, i was doing it back in the 80`s (130bhp out of an 1800 TC Coupe), with all the relevant suspension mods it would see off most Capri`s and Cortinas of the day...even the `sorted` ones!!, so a fast Marina is not that unusual really, that was why the Police used then in the early days too, believe it or not, in their day, they were pretty quick for a production car!

Ay up Frank,

i'm glad you said the bit about Ben choosing the name because of his own project,of course he did no irony there just a bit of a smoke screen to justify the choice of name,i'm sure if Ben was to spill the beans and come clean he would say the same,i was wanting to say that all along but thought that discretion was the best course of action (best not start about the fitting of alien parts then! )

Now really i'm not the greatest of spokesman about the correct name for this and for that,i if i wanted humour i would really state that and do a full send up,perhaps some of these.

 Sports-Marina-magazine,where the driver get a pair of Nikes
 Marina-T.C-magazine,for Totally) C(r*p)
 custom-Marina-magazine,where we fit brakes

Frank and as the diplomatic man that you are,i know you want to draw a line under this topic and move on,so i shall say although i think Fast Marina is a terrible name that opens the Marina up for yet another criticism to be aimed at it (but i'm sure we will over come this small hurdle) and to echo the points Fergus made no matter how dreadful and ridiculous the name is (and trust me it is!) to change it to suit other could be seen as backing down to the Clarkson boys and i would never ever do that.So on that final note Viva fastmarinamagazine,no matter how inappropriate i may deem it's handle,i shall uphold it's name with honour and dignity and perhaps a grumble when no ones about.

I know a former Strathclyde traffic officer through another forum, and he has told me that his force always had a handful of Marinas and later Itals on strength primarily for use by senior officers.TCs were intially used as chase cars he said, until one car fractured both front chassis legs in a bumpy chase and they were relegated to 2nd line duties. So I suspect the memories of other forces will be similar, but it does mean that there were probably a good number of Marinas and Itals in uniform so photos will perhaps one day come to light!

The garage where i got my car new car from,is run by an old guy called Jack who was head mechanic at West Bar police station in Sheffield, when i was talking to him about British Leyland,he said that it was the best thing that ever happened when they (West Bar) went to Fords, his recollections of the Marina were not good,he said the only good BL cars that were any good were the Rover V8,3500 then the SD1 even though he said these all had problems,he said the best police cars were the Escort mk1 &2,then the Granada's,but they did stick with the SD1 until it finished production because it was so well liked.
Sheffield police only ever used the odd BL,Austin Rover,Rover car after that and these were all the big Rovers and occasional Land Rovers, and the Range Rover.

A previous attempt to make a purpose built police car by the Danish manufacturer LEGO,trialed by the Toy Town constabulary in the early 1970's,the car proved popular because it could also turn into a wheel barrow or a hand cart, but was let down the fact it could only carry two officers, astronauts,or firemen.

They used SD1 Rovers down here for Police cars! I was told they all had the power steering removed from the steering racks as they either did not like the power steering or there was not enough feel to the drive for it to be a good chase car etc.
But in doing that the steering was very heavy and it became a tough car to drive for a whole shift! so I am told.

Always like the SD1 - looked ahead of its time.

The Fire Engine Museum in Sheffield has a mint Police Rover P6 3500. Growing up in Doncaster I can remember seeing Rover SD1s in the Police maintainance garage that used to be on Greyfriars road near to the North Bus station. My mates and I used to speculate about what engine mods they'd done to make them faster. They were quite legendary at that time.

The PC forum views really don't bother me at all. I simply couldn't give a flying F*ck what anyone thinks of the Marina whether that comes from a classic car enthusiast or not. As for the name Fastmarinamagazine well that's an easy target for slagging right away.

I am an administrator on a few forums and the best way to stop folk from coming on, soaking up information and then using our quotes or to report what we are saying/ doing is to make it a closed shop. I have implemented this technique on 2 forums (one being my own forum) and have NEVER once had any problems. Also look at the amount of members of this forum, 1035. How many are actually active members? The best thing to do here is to purge delete all posters who have a post count of zero then work your way down the list as to when they last posted etc. This will soon sort out the sh1te out.

The problem with this forum, hence why I don't post as often nowadays is because it's over moderated. You can't use man's talk and the Political Police are clueless. Political correctness and softly softly is what has ran this once great country into the ground and it's even spilling into clubs/ forums now.

The administrators of fastmarinamagazine welcome every applicant with open arms and ban/ suspend regular MARINA enthusiasts and GENUINE forum members when they defend the car. Once the program goes to air then expect another slagging from the sad tiny minds like we had the last time.

It was laughable when JC and his gang read quotes out on national tv on what we were saying about them destroying Marinas. Do we really want to be made a laughing stock again? if so then carry on as normal.... or do some housekeeping and tighten the forum up.
Beauty with brains behind it!

So whats going on with that marina in the snow then? Is that Clarkson driving it? I take it Topgear just cant leave Marinas well enough alone if they are still making fun of them. I have watched the first 2 episodes of the new series and I was really expecting the morris marina owners club to be mentioned in the 'people we have offended' part of 'the news'. Maybe they just want to drop it in there again unexpectedly like in december. They didnt show this at the start did they where they show clips of what to expect over the coming weeks?

I agree wholeheartedly. The easiest way to spike the guns of the morons is to deny them ammo in the first place. Make it so that to join this forum, you must supply reg no and Mark of the car and whether it is on the road or SORN, it will be dead easy to go to the DVLA site and check up on it. I know there are still cars out there under DVLA radar, but it will make life difficult for the opportunist pillock to get in. And apart from that, I suspect there are enough people spread around the country to check out the really true ones (I know you will say "Oh, but all they have to do is look on Ebay..." but most are just out for a wind-up and if that entails work, they won't be interested.) We do have a lot of people who are genuinely annoyed with TG trashing any classic for the entertainment value who are on our side.
The classic car movement needs Jeremy Clarkson like Jenson Button needs a towhitch and a Sprite Musketeer....

What about people who dont have a Marina? The whole point I joined this site was to get a Marina and talk to other Marina owners.
