The Italians do notice the car, i get a lot of smiles and a few thumbs up, but more important they don´t stay on the horn when i´m a little bit slow to drive through junctions etc.

Today i will go to rome airport and leave my daugther as she is taking a plane back to Norway. At the same time a friend of mine is joining me for the rest of the trip. Marina waiting in the sun outside the airport


from rome we were heading towards pisa along the mediterrian sea, The scenery along the coast is bretahtaking and the wether fantastic,


The marina runs like clockwork and we have no problems with the car whatsoevre. Lunch is taken at a seaside restaurant along the way . Sea-food tagliateli and ravili accompanied with some fuel for the people




arriving in pisa in the evening with not much to report regarding the the drive as the marina just swallow up the miles

Absolutely loving this Jan-Ivar. Keep it coming mate, great story. Just saying to the wife that it would be great to do something like this but she seems to be in one of her boring moods again. Normal day.

the rims are ordinary (5,5j i think) as the tyres are 175/70. There shouldn't be too much going wrong that can't be fixed so definetively recomend using the old car for holiday. You get in touch with a lot more people, and you'll "have" to stay of the motorways thus enjoying the landscape a lot more.

Next day saw some "action" . As we started off there was suddenly a lot of grey smoke coming from the dashboard. The only "mod" we had done with the car before the trip was to wire up a loose-hanging sigarette-lighter as the car didn't have any - and we needed to charge the sat-nav. You guessed it - we didn't use a fuse so the whole thing short-circuited and started to melt.



Luckily only the plastic isolation on the extra-wire caught fire and as we could stop straight away - no major damage was done.

About the same as I got from the Honda Jazz last holiday (570km cruising at 100-110kmh over the sealed part of Clarkson's route in the TG yacht race ) - 30 years of Japanese ingenuity to match the best of '70s British.

of course ........ not - but we now dismantle the lead whenever parking the car ...

We headed out for firenze as we were told that would be a nice place to visit. Lots of points of interest but we should have read a bit more about the city before arriving as the sat-nav point -of -interest doesnt differ between larger and smaller attractions - still a nice city tho



Then we set out for Parma and arriving there what better way to know your in pharma than having some pharmaham for lunch



followed by parma-brewed beer



We now have to decide which route over the alps , after all we just have 37BHP to draw from and the added effect of thin air will further reduce the effect of the realiable old diesel.

This is were we checkened out and took the 6,6 kilometers tunnel through the top instead of going over the top. We did manage to pull up in third at 50 km/h . I reckon the trailers take another route cause we were only passed by caravans and ordinary cars.... The road on the southside/italian side is wide enough so if you drive on the shoulder - theres room enough to pass. Going down on the northern/swiss side it was mostly tunnels so we build up quite a lot of "followers"
But they didn't seem to mind too much , and i was always pulling to the side allowing people to pass whenever possible


Then we were over in switzerland - small town called chur - The car was parked up in the hotel garage


We went out for something to eat - but everything except McDonalds was closed after 10 in the swizz countryside on sunday.
