Having offered to loan my maroon car to a friend from Australia to tour the south island of NZ, I decided I had better take it for a drive to make sure all was as it should be.

On the way home, a loud grating noise under brakes signaled the death of a set of disk pads.
While replacing them I discovered that the left side swivel joint was out of adjustment, and the track rod end was worn out.
The front bumper had literally been fitted by morons so I refitted that.
The left side engine mount was squiffy so another went in. In the rain...
Then I washed it.

Tomorrow it will need a serious wax polish due to too much salt air.
Probably needs oil and filter changing.
Definitely needs a new set of spark plugs.

Bloody difficult to loan a car these days....

Think of it this way, you are a true friend to this guy, some people would have thrown him the keys without checking anything and then blamed him when things went wrong.

Mine got some shiny new metal glued on last night 8-)

Inner sill work and a patch on the driver's side A pillar (in the doorshut).

Looking like it might need a very thorough going over in the near future though. Better start saving me pennies!

Took it for an MOT,failed on parking brake efficiency (8%). Put the new free tax disc on,and paid the insurance, £88.00. Cheap as chips, all I need to save for is the petrol!

Stuck it in for an MOT. Failed on wiper blades, improperly secured battery (it's about three times the size it should be which doesn't help ), and a blowing manifold to downpipe joint. Retest tomorrow hopefully :mr green: 'Tho I have had an argument with the wiper motor gearbox this afternoon... serves me right for trying to grease it, should have left well alone

I would put wheels on immediately..! ;)

On that car I actually had the rear springs reset 2" lower.
Unfortunately - it is not the best method at all.
Lowering blocks are definitely the way to go for a number of reasons.
When you reset the spring height;
- the shocks bottom out on bumps as they are 2" more compressed at rest
- the springs simply do not function as well because they are nearly flat when under compression

With the Mk3, there is no problem with lowering blocks inducing axle tramp because the rear swaybars act as a top linkage, and that would have been my major reason for not using blocks otherwise.
Lowering the front is simply a matter of moving the lower arms on the torsion bar spline - but usually you only need to lower the front 1", as it has already sagged by 1" during service. You will notice that most Marinas are nose low.

Cheers.

Spent some time building the LSD disk brake rear end for the 6 cylinder Coupe. It is soooooo nice to play in a workshop instead of an exposed piece of concrete in the backyard.I might ask Santa for one this year.

Last attempt at stopping diff oil leaking from the nearside wheel today.
Already tried new seals with no luck so after some thought I puled the half shaft out and changes seals and bearing again, put bearing back a tiny bit to one side of where it was fitted to encourage the seal to run on a different spot. Lightly cross hatched the half shaft where the seal runs to help bead in.
Also to stop the bearing spinning in the axle casing I centre dotted the lower section where the bearing sits and cleaned off with thinners and then put loctite where the bearing sits. This I hope will stop the bearing rattling around and also stop the oil leak which I think was more likely bearing casing moving allowing the oil out. Did not need a pull for the half shaft as the bearing was so loose in the casing.
Topped up the diff oil and check handbrake adjustment.

If this oil still leaks then I will be changing the back axle for my spare one
