Decided to try my skills at doodling up the 1984 Rover Marina.

That's a good drawing isn't it? Yes I could see that working. The front also looks a little like the second generation Avenger (Chrysler/Talbot) which was a period Marins contemporary.

I didn't even have the Chrysler Avenger in mind when making it, but it really does! Its meant to be a sort of hybrid of the Maestro and SD3 front. I made this by tracing over an Ital in Inkscape and drawing new bumpers, wing mirrors and grille/headlights, and of course moving the aerial. Good thing straight lines were the order of the day in the 1980s because I'm not very good at making curves in the program.

Yes on close up enlargement I could see it was drawn on computer and not with a pen. Looks neat though. I've no idea whatsoever about programs for drawing or Photoshop alterations like your original Teal Blue Coupe photo. I've had a computer of some sort for a lot of years now, but have never gone into them that much to know how to use programs like that.

Had a stab at the Rover 500, by now my inability to do curves is really starting to show, don't think I'll even try with the 55.

I said I wouldn't, but oh well.

Strangely acceptable. Although I feel that in order to be able to sell such a car, the company must by that time have had to update the suspension and make it coil sprung front and rear. Not impossible, because they re-engineered the Rover 75 V8 to rear wheel drive.

I imagine they'd dip into the parts bin and rummage around for some more modern suspension, would certainly make the 2 litre diesel less hairy.

Found this rather odd Rover Allegro on Facebook. It certainly goes to show you can make an older car look much more modern than it is if you're crazy enough.

Apparently in Thailand, where this odd creation is from, there's a strange subculture of modding older cars to look modern or putting modern running gear in them. It reminds me of that advert where the Indian guy makes his Hindustan Ambassador look like a Pugeot.

Somebody on Facebook noticed it's got five stud alloys so the running gear is probably neither Allegro or Rover 25/45. I think it's very well finished, just altering the door handles alone and making them look factory must have involved a lot of work.

Low front five stud wheels rear discs and twin exhausts. How about Subaru Impeza with turbocharged flat 4 engine and full 4wd running gear, maybe even the full Subaru floor pan.

Hi guys, I know this is an old post but I have just seen it. I have had the same thoughts. I haven't done any measuring but a Datsun 1200 coupe has a similar shape rear side glass. Also was thinking a Vauxhall Viva HA coupe front door glass as it has the quarter lights. Unfortunately I am in Australia so the Allegro is out of the question for me.
