Could the alloy head make that much difference.? Both engines have manifolds that would have done well as ballast in the Titanic...
iirc I read on ARonline that the O-series block was about 20kg lighter. Don't know how much lighter the alloy head is.

:D :D Ay up fellas :D :D

Good to see the MK3 getting a lot more acceptance and indeed desirability in the Marina world,it does seem to me that the people who have driven the MK 3 cars prefer them to the MK1/2's,the MK 3 is and does feel a far more modern car over the earlier models both on the inside and in the cars performance economy and road manners (and the Ital feels and drives better then the MK3 the 1.3 "A" is perhaps the best Marina/Ital ever)

Great to know this often over looked gem is finally starting to get the recognition it rightfully deserves.

The only thing is...when I drive my clasic car, I don't want it to feel modern....

That's not to say i wouldn't LIKE a nice clean MKIII.

I would!

I guess the lack of a camshaft and distributor drive would help there.
Of course - the cylinder head now has the camshaft and buckets added - probably not too much lighter at all...

Hello Mick,i haven't driven that many Marinas and my every day car is pretty new with all the flash bits on it a (Ghia X) so perhaps i'm wanting a car that more like the ones i'm used to so i find the Mk3 a lot nicer to drive and the instruments a lot better to use and especially the indicators being on the left, but the best car i have driven was a 1.3 hls or slx Ital that was really good and quick as well.

Actually, re-reading the article, the whole O-series engine was 20kg lighter than the B-series, so possibly the block saved even more weight. It was also shorter, so that would help the balance by shifting the weight bias slightly more rearward. :D

I think not Uncle Frank! Mk1's are only suitable for spares/donors for moggie minor boys!    However, Itals do make nice plant pots

Much as I adore my TC..... especially the exhaust note.
I DO have a soft spot for a Mk3 1.3 HL.Must be a HL.
Either in oyster or tara green. Would be tempted though to swap over the engine to an A+ setup.
