I replaced one of my UJs but when the sliding joint is loose there is not much you can do apart from replace it - I think.
The one I got off the scrapped citron coupe is staked so that may be a problem.
Might be able to dremel out the punches and remove but if it does not have a circlip groove then you can't fit the new UJs unless you stack it in different positions?

You can get staked UJ conversion kits, allowing you to unpick a staked UJ and substituting the kit which converts it to a type of circlip retention.

If you go to that trouble you may as well have a new prop made!

Today I was mostly rebuilding a steering rack for a mate.



The Nolathane bush is sitting next to where it fits - and is about twice the width of the original steel-backed nylon bush. This one had broken up so the car failed a wof for play at the LHS front wheel.

The car in question surfaced last weekend when family members of a deceased estate contacted the local Morris Owners Club. It is a 1300 Mk2 saloon, and in very original condition overall. My mate Zeb gave them $800 for it - quite a fair price considering the rack and a broken gearlever. Zeb took it home and gave it a clean. Came up very well and is a perfect match for his Mk2 estate..

When I say "mostly" - I am being a tad reticent.
I had the bonnets up on 6 Marinas simultaneously today.
One thing I was concerned about, was the failure of yet another thermostat housing cap on an O series engine.
Took a look on ebay tonight and found some stainless steel items that can be mailed to NZ.
Yay for ebay.!!
Hopefully these will prove to be exactly as pictured..

I got one of those thermostat housing caps exactly the same and fitted it on my 1700 and it works fine no leaks so far...

Removed the V8 ready for its manual box.

Took the Pickup to Woburn Abbey.

Nothing more exciting than drive mine today. Did shove my friend's Dolomite back out into the sunshine to give it a wash and take some photos to show the body shop.





Nice to have it back on it's wheels at last. It's had everything off (axle/ subframe), everything cleaned/ painted or replaced and the underside stripped of the old undersealed, repainted & reundersealed. Off to the professionals to make the top half look pretty!

Apologies for another non Marina diversion but it's the reason nothing very much has happened with said Marina for the last year

I've got a plan for the lowering the front, I've yet to work out the rear, as I have yet to find any U bolts long enough to take in both lowering blocks that I already have and the 4 leaf springs as well.

I gave up trying to find some the right size and bought Escort ones and drilled out the spring plates on the estate (which also has 4 leaf rears IIRC). Theory being that standard Escort U bolts will be easier to find than Marina ones anyway should I decide to return it to normal height.

Thanks for that, where did you get the Escort U bolts from?

Rally Design do them. Instead of elongating the holes I would weld the old ones up and re-drill them.

Think mine may have been eBay Chris- can't remember now I'm afraid. Holes don't need relocating Ben, the Escort U bolts are a bigger diameter so they don't fit through, but they point to approximately the right place
