Cleaned all the grease and accumulated grime off of the suspension, very nice sitting out in the sun but I do now have an interesting "Dalmation" appearance. Much old toothbrush and Gunk action. Looks a lot better for it though- despite the overspray on the NS suspension leg from when the wing was repaired- I believe after a prang was the car was 6 months old!

Also got the pedal box out and set about swapping the manual bits and bobs over. Annoyingly, the studs for the clutch master blanking plate are just too short to securely bolt the master on (while being far longer than they need to be for the blanking plate) so I've got to try and swap them over from the spare (manky) pedal box.

Had the carpets up to check it was all dry inside, the driver's side was somewhat soggy when I picked it up- not sure if it's the screen seal (I hope so) or sunroof- or something else. Has been under cover over winter with the windows ajar and it's dried out nicely. Had to take some photos of the floors while it was up though...

That's not rust in the front, just a bit of dirt ;)

Got my Letter back from DVLA on the 10th of April to say it is now an historic vehicle (Only sent it off on the 31st of March) and they sent through a tax disc with NIL on with a month overlap as my current paid disc runs out end of the month and the new NIL one starts beginning of March.
On the 11th the V5 arrived all OK with the right class specified.
Well happy now
Just got to book MOT and I am good for the year.

Excellent news mr V, I'm just waiting for my two V5's to come back too, then I'll have good to go! One straight away and one once it's back together! ;)

Went to Southampton on a recovery mission to collect another Marina my mate has just bought through Ebay.
The evening started well, and after a lot of faffing around got a car that had been sat for over 14 months running.
A combo of stale fuel, blocked and sticking float chamber and a flat battery didn't help. We disconnected the fuel lines,
cranked it over to remove the remaining stale fuel from the tank, re-set the mixture and idle and after a lot of faffing
around got it to run reasonably well. We then had the issue of the clutch, which needed bleeding having presumably
leaked from the slave over a prolonged rest which was an absolute arse to do.

FINALLY after flattening the cars battery, jumped it off mine and got it running..again. Attempted a gear and it reluctantly
"clonked" into reverse. It moved back some two feet. Went to select forward and the lever jammed not allowing either forward
or backward movement. Went to reverse again and there was an almighty "bang". Went into first. Moved forward slowly."Bang"
Jammed again. After a lot of dicking about we got it to the position where we were ready to leave. Log book signed, cash exchanged.

Tryed reversing up the drive in a position to drive away, but would now not stay in reverse..and any attempt to move it would
result in it kicking up one of the rear wheels, which would spin, then stop, "bang" then spin. Same thing then happened in
forward gears. ::(: At this point my mate had decided it wasn't going anywhere tonight. I think..its either the axle, or one of the half
shafts has let go. There is a clutch, and the gears do seem to be engaging. So next we will have to get it recovered and take it
from there. Bit of a disappointing evening, as we were looking forward to a Marina convoy :frown: . Oh well, maybe next time...

Pics taken before attempting to move it...

Hmmmm sounds like maybe the clutch plate was stuck to the flywheel and forcing the gearbox into gear has caused damage to the gearbox, reverse is particularly susceptible to damage. If it goes into gear fine with the engine not running but wont go into gear with the engine running then the clutch plate is stuck.

The original clutch plates seem to be particularly prone to sticking when sat for a while, the one in my DL always does and presumably because TDT is also a very low mileage car that has the original clutch plate in it.

Good looking car well done. Does the bang co-incident with it jumping out of gear? It doesn't sound like a clutch problem even if the clutch is stuck it shouldn't make it go bang.

Do check whether one or other of the back brakes isn't stuck on, it can happen if left for a long time with the handbrake on. Jack up one rear wheel at a time and spin it whilst out of gear with handbrake off. Don't forget to chock the front wheels.

Could be a number of contributing factors. The gear selector was very also stiff. but the wheels would turn once in gear, "bang"
then stop, then turn again, but only on one side?. I'd put money on it being diff or shaft related...will report back once we've got it home ;)

In a follow up to trying to rescue TDT461L the other day. My mate has had it recovered home today. First concerns about the rear axle being suspect have been layed to rest, as we have discovered that the gear-box is to blame. She's lost 1st & reverse, but runs and drives..just about. Fortunately I have a spare box lying around which my mate will probably end up having just to get his back on the road. The car is a bit of a happy average. It has some good trim on it. Annoyingly the bumpers are very good, straight, but have a couple of nasty scratches in the sides, making it pointless swapping for mine. Having previously seen it, the subject of "would it be possible to buy/swap this" came up in conversation and my mates not fussed about the condition of his, and is more than happy to swap trim over in return for some money back..so happy days :D I've already nicked the passenger seat for the cover, as it's identical to my interior colour. Going to strip my drivers seat down tomorrow and do some recovering.

Has had a mint replacement wing!

Lots to do yet. First on the cards after getting a new gearbox in is to get an MOT on it and take it from there.

To be continued...
