Hi all
Just wanted some info on converting a 1700 O series engine to a 2000, i've heard people say its just replacing the pistons and some same crankshaft,
so while my engine is out of the car thought id look in to converting it to a 2000 as i have already got an lt77 5 speed gearbox.

so any info or parts would be greatly received .

The stroke is different so you would need rods, pistons and crank.

The cam is different also.

If you can gather those bits (scrap engine) you might as well rebuild the scrap motor.

You can use FwD components as well as RWD.

Good luck.

It is not uncommon for a manufacture to use identical connecting rods when stroking a engine on cost grounds but a piston with a different Gudgeon Pin height to be used to I not sure if I read somewhere Dolomite Sprint con rods were used as a starting point having said that I may be thinking of the Rover PE166 engine a more logical source would be B Series as the block started life as a paired down B series that morphed into O Series then M Series followed by T Series. I cant be sure on conrod part numbers as my parts catalogue is not late enough for O Series engine.
Rover part no for 2.0 SD1 is BMH152 Piston CAM 1382 Camshaft CAM1578 im Sorry my SD1 catalogue does not list Connecting Rods

Was discussed in this thread and this thread.

Kilroy has done the conversion before, using parts from a Princess. Not sure if he ever got around to fitting the twin carbs from the Rover SD1.

From Kilroys post in that thread 1700 and 2000 con rods are the same part as I suspected
