Thanks- looking at the forth from the top and the bottom pictures can see why the cars didn’t last- exposed painted metal surfaces with ledges and folded edges waiting to hold road dirt! Annual job was to wire brush clear and waxoyl the surfaces. Seemed to work though.

These pics bring back some memories for me. I worked for a year in E block which was the first building that completed bodies entered the south side works (2nd pic down). 6th pic is where they were constructed in A building north side, formally pressed steel. They were then taken "over the road" through an elevated enclosed bridge (pic 6). my job was sealing underside seams and flanges by hand.
So if anyone has had some rot down the A post panel on a '71 you can blame me!

I'd like to have one of those spot welders in my garage!
I love that bottom pic, all those bare metal body shells wow. It has a sci-fi, space age, look about it doesn't it?

You need wheel arch liners!

Didn't someone on here retrofit SD1 wheel arch liners? Would be a good upgrade, especially for the front where mud gets trapped behind around the headlights.

It’s something I have thought about long after selling my Marina- liners seem to save modern cars.

They don’t have them either

ah, ok. There was a post on the forum I remember where someone fitted liners under the wings... to an SD1 maybe? My memory is sh*t!

Brian Viney fitted Princess wheel arch liners I think?
I am sure he will correct me if I have it wrong ::):

Richard Young had either Princess or Ambassador wheel liners fitted to his Jubilee. They didn't take a great deal of modification but try finding

A company called Lokari used to make wheel arch liners for lots of cars, including Marinas.
They used to advertise in Practical Motorist etc.
I've just googled Lokari and they are still in business, I wonder if they still have the pattern for the Marina liners? It says on the website that they can still make them for pre 1980 cars.

Wow, great minds etc. I was only thinking yesterday about wheel arch liners as one of the things that the club should look into. I’ll follow-up with Lokari and see what they have to say.

They list the Marina in their back catalogue, I have asked them whether they can still supply. I suspect that they would want to sell a batch rather than one offs. I’ll post here to let people know.
