Any one know the purpose of the tin "hot box" on the 1.7 litre engines. Mine has nothing connected to it.

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by hot box. I am thinking the box on exhaust manifold with a large hole in it should be connected via a pipe and thermostatic valve to air filter to stop carburettor icing

Thanks David
I think you are correct. This 0 series engine is used in The Naylor cars of mid eighties. The air cleaner is different to the Marina with no facility for carburettor de icing. It seems the hot box was left in place but not used.
Only 100 Naylor TF1700 we're made, I have the only one in the US.
Thanks

Roger

The O series airfilter had a temperature operated flapper valve which directed hot air from the manifold housing into the filter, or cold air from the front panel as things warmed up.
They had a nasty habit of making annoying vibration noises so many were removed.
Especially by me.
Although living in a warmer climate meant there was no real penalty clause...
