Have a look at my Nice Mk 3 Thread i covered fitting a Aldon Ignigtor which is a Pertronix unit Have used them on many cars and the have proved totally reliable with no down sides Used to use Luminition had a couple of box failures so switched and not looked back Modern Points and Condensers are rubbish if sticking with points buy either Lucas or Unipart NOS

Thanks Dave, I could not find your link on the ignition mod but I will check on the manufactures web site. In fact I do not own a Marina, my car is a very rare Naylor TF 1700 that has the same engine as the Mk three Marina. It has a over complicated ignition wiring
with all sorts if resister wires from a smart ignition key. I want to toss the whole thing out and go electronic.
I am in the Pacific NW near Spokane Washington

Your existing distributor is a Lucas 48D4, full blown mapped ignition with coil pack for the car would be in the range of $600-$1000.
If however you are looking for a simple magnetic trigger system to fit inside the distributor then checkout this website they don’t list the 48D4, but if they do then it should be less than $100 delivered. So I have emailed them on your behalf to see what they say.

Right so Accuspark have back to me with the following.
The Lucas 48D4 shares its contact breaker and baseplate with the Lucas 59D4, so our kit #8 will fit the Lucas 48D4. It is a magnetic trigger system, designed to fit inside the distributor cap and utilise the standard coil and ballast resistor.

Seeing as you are in the US, the A+ Mini engine from 1980 also used the same distributor internals, you may find it easier to order locally for one of those, maybe Moss?

As alternatives to Lumenition, it should be possible to find similar triggers from PowerSpark, Lumenition and Aldon, all whom offer similar systems, search for 1980 onwards Mini A + (plus) distributors.

I have kept on researching and have found Pertronix in the US list the Lucas 59D4. Checkout the first two items on this page.

I bought a complete distributor from Powerspark, mainly because the Australian Marina used a 29D4 that was unique to Australia and had no parts supply. So far no problems with it.
