The 1.3 lives!

Well had a productive day working on the 1.3. Cleaned all the spark plugs, topped up the radiator (well it was completely empty!), put some new petrol in, the battery is knackered so jumped it off another car and after a lot of trying to get it to turn over it finally jumped into life!!

Timing is off, as you would expect from 13+ years in storage however there were no misfires and once it had warmed up was starting first time (with the jump leads). Masses of smoke from the exhaust, not sure yet if this is from oil being burnt off or a head gasket problem.

Clutch is seized, and there are no brakes (hopefully just a case of no fluid and mild seizing).

Electrics, indicators and hazards are working (and the oil light!) and the vacuum gauge is working but nothing else seems to be (heater etc). All fuses are good so must be some loose wires somewhere so need to have a look at those at some point.

Clutch pedal would not go down more than perhaps half, however after a bit of heavy footed stomping it did go down, with a mass of think smoke from the engine bay! Pipe has split and the black plug thing that links to the clutch was really wobbly, need to grab a manual (cough*Ben*cough*) to consult.

Next stages are getting the engine out to look at the clutch, whack some brake fluid and bleed the system and hopefully get the ole girl moving under her own power!

After that, have a look at what structural MOT failures are going on (inner cils, hole in floorpan, hole in A-frame are the ones that spring to mind!) tidy her up a bit and then while she won't be pretty she will hopefully be roadworthy!

Tc hasn't been forgotten, however threads on the head have gone so that's on hold for a while :)

Yes we did which is probably why it sounded nice when it was running :) she may even be roadworthy by the end of the year. Which would be rather nice.
