Two Counties Show - Newmarket Sunday 29/06/08

Post by MarinaCoupe » Sun Jun 29, 2008 8:34 pm

Went to the show at Newmarket Race Course with no expectations today, organised it as a joint venture with the East Anglian area. 11 Marinas/Itals turned out so pretty good - no charge for entry and free plaque for those that like that sort of thing.

Turned out to be a nice show - friendly, good banter, lots of other classic cars to see (150+). Pics below - also met Josh Ward from this forum - good to meet you Josh - sat him in a Marina Coupe which may just have made his day?

Lots of pics below.

However the highlight of the day was about 3.00pm when our club Gazebo decided to take off in the wind - got to about 20 feet, with Mrs Cawte hanging onto the one remaining guy rope, two ropes broke and one pulled out. The landing wasn't so hot though, bent half the tubular framework. Anyway, we are asking the British Olympic Committee for a new wild card sport in 2012 - Synchronised Gazebo Flying - we reckon that we could put a team in and go for Gold.

And they ran both the darg cars up on wheel stands to demo that true all over vibration sensation of going to a drag meet.

Good to see a nice turnout of marinas and itals.....UAB is looking nice and shiny. We had awful weather at Moffat all weekend which spoils it for everyone.

Hi Frank

Nice Coupe as you say, was on Ebay and I think Gary went up to Scotland to pick her up. There are the usual rust breakouts round the window trims etc. New member Gary, first Marina, but has previous for Capris and Anglias, didn't like the cliqueyness of Capri clubs - one model/trim type members don't talk to another model/trim type members!!!!

If we did that in the MMOC we wouldn'y ever speak to one another.

Yeah good day all round, although the weather looks better in the pictures than it was, checkout the angle of the club flag and you'll get some idea.

Funnt that Chris, A gazebo from the Stirling and District car club decided to take off up here too. It scratched 2 cars from another club and knocked a woman out cold causing her head injurys. 2 Ambulances ended up attending her and carting her off to hospital. Hope the woman is ok and not to badly hurt.

Yup should have said earlier Mrs Cawte (Jim Cawte's missus - can't remember her first name) caught the nearest guy rope as the big bird took off, thankfully she didn't leave the ground herself, but was flying the Gazebo like a big kite. No harm or damage done and jokes all round afterwards.

UAB is in fine fettle Mick and Karen love her to bits - Mick takes her to work at least once a week (rather than his Ital) to make sure she gets a run and stops the brakes from binding/clutch seizing etc.

As to Josh - I was chatting to his dad at the time and forgot to take a pic.

I introduced Josh to the local area rep for where he lives in Ipswich (Martin Wallis) and I think Josh is going to look at a commercial that Martin has in Ipswich so maybe, just maybe.......

The venue was Newmarket Race Course - behind the Rowley Mile stand by the collecting ring - brilliant facilities.

Excellent Chris, it’s always good to meet and introduce new members to the fold especially when they are as young as josh. Fortunately we older chaps have had the opportunity to experience theses cars when they were in abundance and not classics!

With regards to UAB it’s good to hear the car is doing well and looking really nice. There was so much that I wanted to do to this car but never got round to it because I had to get a saloon for the wife and child. UAB was always a fun car to drive and she was very poky!

I am hoping to make it down to the IOW this year but nothing is definite at the moment. I will need to see how the finances are next month.

Cheers, Sean
