BRAKING BRAKE PADS

Post by MARINAMADBAZ » Sun Jun 29, 2008 11:28 pm

2 weeks ago i Fitted a new brake discs to my every day 1980 1700 marina and decided to fit a new set of brake pads whilist i was doing this.
I grabbed a set of nos brake pads of my shelf(ferrodo's)and fitted them.
Within a week/200 miles strange squelching noises started when i used the brakes.
The following week the noises were getting worse and a constant brake binding noise aswell.
After taking the front wheels off and having a look at calipers this is what had happened on both pairs of front brake pads.
Image
2 week old fitted brake pads!!
The brake pad linning has detached itself from the backs of 3,the last 1 is braking away the same as the others.
im not sure what has caused this i can only put it down to a dodgy set of nos brake pads and have fitted another set.
unless anybody knows different.
Best regards
Barry

Hi Barry,

It's a bit of a faf but Ferrodo might be interested in your problem and you might get some new pads out of it for free.

Also, your picture isn't working.

i used to sell ferodo for years when i worked with tms. Wefound that if you bought the red boxed ferodo premier there wasn't any problems. If you fitted ferodo target which are in green boxes they were prone to detack themselves but ferodo will always give you a replacement set no problem.

HI,
Ive done many many miles taxi-ing with Ferodo premier and copper grease without an ounce of trouble...The target ones have a tendency to grind a bit when half worn for a bit and howl for the first couple of thousand miles regardless. I assume its a chunk of extra large/firm friction material buried deep in the pads!
The premier dont last as long but your disc does whereas the others last longer but the discs dont!

Brake Pads

Post by TrialsMarina » Sat Jul 05, 2008 6:06 pm

Only one set of pads to fit to a Marina, they are called GREENSTUFF from heritage in witney.

I use them in my Trials Marina and they have transformed the braking.

Premium street sport pad for cars up to 200bhp. General spirited street driving.
Designed for premium street driving offering better brake effect up to 600°C (1100°F). EBC Greenstuff has a high initial brake effect and gives drivers confidence from first application of the brake pedal. There is no such thing as a NO DUST pad. The very nature of how a brake works requires that some dust be generated to avoid rotor vibration (shimmying). The EBC pad creates less dust and dust is more easily washed off than most. All pads create more dust as they are bedding in especially if rotors are worn. Nominal friction coefficient 0.55. For heavier faster cars and vehicles above 200bhp we strongly recommend Redstuff which DOES offer much less dust.
