Engine Oils
Evening everyone, Does anyone know of suppliers of decent 20w50 oil that isn't really expensive? Halfrauds want £15 for 5 litres my local accessory shop wants £18 for 5 litres and Millers is just ridiculously priced. I used to be able to get Castrol classic from B&Q for under a tenner now it seems that the only oils you get for a reasonable price are either reclaimed ones (EG Asda's own brand) or the thin modern multigrades which I don't really feel confident in putting in a B series, especially one that is used hard. Hell, it's even becoming hard to find a 15w50 these days Maybe I have been spoiled with my Volvo which will run happily on just about any of the modern oils from 10w30 upwards!

I bought 20 ltrs of comma (20/50) at the start of the year for under £20. It was cheaper for me to buy the box than just one. I also got 50 ltrs of antifreeze for £20 and that was public prices from a small motor factors in Edinburgh. Just have a good snoop around because bargains are out there it's just a matter of finding them

 tut tut ado28. dingbro sells comma 20/50 which is oe spec. nice and cheap as well and we have an account with them.
Aye it was after I bought the stuff I remembered our club had an account with your supplier, but no harm done as I only spent 40 bangers that day. I will be placing my new order soon as the Saloon is due its next oil change within the next 2 weeks. I’ve put 2,000 miles on its clock so far and another 250+ will be added to it tomorrow. These motors are just so usable!!!

You know Tony, I completely forgot about chester autoparts and I only live down the road from them too !, I used to use Valvoline oil years back when Shotton autoparts was open, nice oil that!Gee tc wrote:HI paul,
I use 'chester auto parts' (near us!) who do a number of oils, usually by valvoline & comma.
I've never had a problem with these brand and they are keenly priced.
They stock or can get most marina service items.

The problem with the rising price of oil is that the price of engine oil goes up too!
I've always used GTX in my cars, but they changed the formulation several years ago, resulting in a thinner product. Their high milage stuff makes me laugh too, claimed for cars with 75k and over.
Any good for a car which has done 160k then?

Afraid I`m with Paul on this one chaps, after years of owning cars with `A` and `B` series engines I now only use decent oil whenever i carry out a service, all too often cheap oil will lead to bearing failure or smoking exhausts. It is well worth the extra few quid for Castrol Classic 15W 40, Direct from Castrol Classic Oils, or even Millers if you can stretch to it
. Next time you get to the bottom of that cheap can of oil take a look at the sediment left in the bottom of the can, most of them are just reprocessed rubbish.
