I took my TC Coupè to an Airfield near Oxford on Sunday, for a photoshoot for Classics Monthly magazine, for an article entitled "endangered species".
They had arranged for three other cars to attend: Chrysler 2 litre, Peugeot 604 and a Lancia Trevi. Three of us arrived, but the Lancia did not make it (electrical problems).
A good day out, very interesting how to make the camera "lie", by making it look like the cars are doing 50mph, when they are actually going at walking pace!!
The Chrysler is a rare beast. According to its owner, Phil, there are only 3 left on the road!!
The only slightly scary bit was cornering at speed, to get a photo of body roll, but the Peugeot was possibly worse than the Marina, due to soft french suspension.
The article should appear in CLASSICS MONTHLY around about May
Hopefully, the Marina should get a good write-up, I was getting all positive remarks!

Thats great.

And having seen your car in 'the flesh' its nice to know that marinas have been represented by such a good example.
I was thinking of trying to get my car in pratical classics once the rebuild is finished. I think the more posative coverage we can get with our cars all the better.
Speaking of which-has anyone seen this months PC? The grudge match article ( Dolly, Escort, A35, Minor etc ) made me realise just how rare/special our marinas are. I had no idea about numbers but seeing there is 15767 minor's on the road clearly shows how few marinas are about!
( figures for other cars in feature A30/35-6402, Escort mk2-3203, Dolomite-1261, P5B-2004, Jag240-956 )

Yes I have read the article in Practical Classics. This was discussed on sunday, compared with the Minor, the Marina is a rare vehicle now. Hence the inclusion in the feature "endangered species".
Another thing to bear in mind is, out of, say, 600 Marinas, how many TC Coupes are left?
Nice to see Joe & Jason are giving yours their expert touch, I look forward to seeing it at some shows this year.

Excellent stuff Dave!, yours is a great example to use on such a feature too, the Black Tulip will look really good in a colour feature, nice to hear they are doing some fresh features now instead of just digging out old library pictures of XDL

, well done mate!

It`s quite sobering to think that for every Marina that is still out there, there are about six Minors, you can certainly see where all those parts have been going!

It would be interesting to know the figures for the Avenger and the Maxi. The Avenger especially must be in low figures.

Had a look in the current issue of Classics Monthly, in the "coming next issue" section, looks like my Marina TC will be in the May issue, on sale on 8th April. Keep watching those newsagents' shelves. 8) (NO,NOT THE TOP SHELVES)

Thanks guys!
I remember reading in the club magazine about there being only 22 TC Coupes. It was in the article about the Rhinegold coloured TC Coupe currently being restored by a club member.Club records should show the numbers of certain models in the club. Can anyone confirm numbers of remaining TC Coupes?
Dave.

How did it come about having your car featured in the mag? Did they approach you, the club or did you approach them?
Just interested............!

Not my car in Practical Classics, they contacted me through the Club for a car local to where the photshoot was to take place (Derby), they were very specific about what they were after (early suicide suspension car) and I found one on the database and spoke to the owner first before linking the owner direct to the magazine.
I think that Classics Monthly contacted Dave direct.
Because Area Reps have their name/telephone number on the club website, they sometimes get direct contact.
We have previously had requests direct at car shows and via emails to the club or known contacts.

The journalist who wrote the article, Andrew Roberts, phoned me on the thursday before the sunday photoshoot. The magazine is published in Bath and they wanted a local car in case of any information required after the photoshoot. I thought it was a wind-up at first!! Then he said, "don't worry, we are not top gear", and explained what they wanted to do.
Excellent day out, very interesting, highly recommended if anyone gets the chance
